It hurts sometimes. How much she talks about him.
You realize how horrible she feels about it, being in the same situation yourself. But it still hurts.
The two of you are laying on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. You had been joking around, telling her stories about your dad and growing up in your time. She had been laughing and smiling and happy. You don't know what happened, but suddenly, she's frowning and looks as if she's going to cry.
"I don't understand why I'm so hung up on him, Janey." She says, smashing her hands against her face, and curling into your side.
Cautiously you put your arm around her, and pull her closer. "It's understandable." You say, frowning. "You love him, right?"
"Yeah."
"You don't just get over someone overnight." As much as you wish she would.
"But he's with Jake now." She closes her eyes and sadness grips your heart. "Is this how it feels for you, too?"
"What do you mean?"
"Don't you like Jake?" she asks, sitting up and staring at you.
"Oh, right. Uh, yes, I suppose so." I try to keep the uncertainty out of your voice. You did have feelings for Jake a while ago, and in an attempt to save your friendship with Roxy, continued to try and keep those feelings alive. But after meeting everyone in person, you couldn't do it anymore. "I'm not, uh, I'm don't have those kinds of feelings for him anymore, I don't think."
"Really?" She raises her eyebrows, and you stare into her bright pink eyes. "When did this happen?"
"Uh, a while ago, I guess." You try to smile at her. "He's just not as charming in person."
"Oh. Cool." She moves away from you and sits against the wall. You can't help but miss the warmth. "You're lucky, Janey."
"I wouldn't say that."
"But you are." She insists. "Feeling like this sucks."
You don't respond. You don't want to tell her that you do feel it.
You close your eyes when she runs her fingers through your hair. You want to pretend she's doing it lovingly, but it's all platonic. You know that. But you can't help but hope otherwise.
"Thanks for always listenin' Janey. You're an awesome BFF." She says, smiling at you.
You look up at her, and a smile comes your lips as well. "That's what I'm here for, Roxy."
