Sandcastles

by Lack Thereof

Yup, it's been a long time, but I got it done!!

Anyway, this was a returning of a favor for my friend EvilFaerie17, who's probably wondering when the lazy ass (aka Lack Thereof) is gonna get it done.

Lights...Cameras...ACTION.

Sakura always loved the beach, where she could just escape from all her troubles and just lie in the sand, or cool off in the ocean blues. But one thing she always loved about the beach was making sandcastles. Making something so fine out of something so simple had never ceased to amaze her. Today Sakura was enjoying a beach trip by herself, because her friends had been getting on her nerves recently. She lay on her towel and watched some kids mold a sand hill with their hands. She closed her eyes, remembering a time way back when she was six...

"Momma!" Sakura stamped her foot impatiently while waiting for her mother to gather her things, "Hurry up!"

"I'm coming Sakura." Her mom assured her, taking just as slow to put things together. Sakura sighed very audibly and stormed toward the beach, her childhood anger triggered. She sat down on the beach, and after poking holes in the sand for a while, decided to create THE biggest sandcastle there ever was.

She embarked on this quest without thinking about what tools she might need. She toiled at this for an hour, and then she accidentally shoved her foot into a tower, causing everything to come tumbling down. Gripped by frustration, she destroyed everything else and started to cry, not knowing what else to do. Despite her mother's coos, she ran down the beach. After a while she slowed down, and noticed a boy around her age sitting alone on a pile of rocks. All the other kids were noticeably avoiding him. The boy had red hair and soft sea green eyes. She walked toward him and sat down next to him. "Leave me alone." The boy said pointedly, glaring at her. Sakura was baffled at this streak of spite. She had been trying to be his friend!

"I was just trying to be your friend!" Sakura pounded a rock, angered. He crossed his arms and turned away. She stood up.

"Fine, be that way!" She shouted, running away. After a while she slowed down. She came walking back and sat back down next to him."Sorry." She looked at the water, throwing a rock at it. The little boy shrugged and stared at the water. "My name's Sakura." she added.

"Gaara." The redhead boy said, gathering some pebbles in his hand and watching them rain from his fingers.

"You like building sandcastles?" Sakura asked. Gaara nodded and looked at her, wondering what her motives were behind this. She stood up and helped him up. Grabbing his hand, she pulled him along up the hill to where her shovels and pails were.

The memory faded, and Sakura came back to reality, now fifteen years old. She looked up, and realized she was on the same beach as that day, which seemed so faraway. She looked farther down the beach, and to her surprise, a redheaded man around her age was sitting on the shore.

She smiled, knowing at once who it was. She walked over and tapped his shoulder. Gaara turned his head to see her."You like building sandcastles?"

Well, there you go! I hope it's okay!
