Regina stood by the window and watched the snow come down in big flakes. It left a beautiful white blanket on the ground and the trees. She couldn't wait to go out and enjoy the first snow of the season with Daniel. Regina put on her boots and winter cloak and started to head out the door.
"Where are you going, Regina?" her mother asked.
Regina turned around. Her mother was standing there with her arms crossed.
"I just wanted to go outside and walk around a bit," Regina said.
"In the middle of this storm? Do you want to catch a cold? We have guests coming tomorrow, if they can make it here. The last thing I need is for you to be sniffling and sneezing."
Regina resisted the urge to roll her eyes. If she did that, her mother would never let her out.
"It's not that cold outside, Mother," Regina said. "I'm only going out for a little while. I won't get sick."
Cora frowned. "You better not. If you insist on going out there, why don't you check on the condition of the road? I want to know if I'm wasting my time preparing for our guests. And, find your father while you're at it. I have a few things that I need him to do."
"Yes, Mother," Regina said.
Regina walked outside and tilted her face toward the sky, enjoying the feel of the snowflakes melting on her cheeks. She realized that she had better find her father first, and then, she could have fun with Daniel. Luckily for her, she found both her father and Daniel in the stables.
"Daddy, Mother wanted to see you," Regina said.
Her father nodded and started walking toward the stable entrance. Regina smiled at Daniel. He smiled back.
"Aren't you coming, Regina?" her father asked.
"No, I wanted to spend a little time outside and look at the snow," Regina said. "It's the first snow of the season. I want to enjoy it."
"Well, you don't want to stay outside too long, or you'll catch a cold," her father said.
This time, Regina did roll her eyes. "I'll be fine, Daddy."
Once her father had left, Regina wrapped her arms around Daniel and brushed her lips against his. When their kiss ended, they stayed in each other's arms for several moments, just gazing into each other's eyes.
"Do you want to go outside and enjoy the snow?" Regina asked softly.
She could see her breath in the cool air.
"You're sure that's alright?" Daniel asked, smiling. "I wouldn't want you to catch a cold."
Regina pulled away from Daniel and started running toward the door.
"Well, you better catch me, then," she shouted as she ran out into the snow.
Regina stopped by a tree and gathered a ball of snow up in her hands. The snow stuck together well. She was happy for her warm gloves. As soon as she saw Daniel, she threw the snowball at him.
"That's not fair!" Daniel shouted, as he gathered snow up for his own snowball.
Before he could find her to throw the snowball at her, Regina threw another one at him. She took off again, laughing, and Daniel pelted her in the back with his own snowball. They chased each other for several minutes, and both were out of breath and covered in snow by the time they stopped at their favorite tree.
The snow was still coming down, and Daniel's cheeks were rosy. He brushed snow out of Regina's hair.
"That was so much fun," Regina said, smiling. "I love snow, and I love you."
Daniel smiled. "I love you, too. This doesn't seem to be the way to avoid catching a cold, though."
Regina wrapped her arms around Daniel.
"Well, I guess you better warm me up then."
