Ally Dawson was used to eating alone. She didn't have any friends, and didn't plan on making any. When people get close to her, that's when things start to go wrong.
Ally continued to pick at her half peanut butter sandwich. She wasn't hungry. Not that she ever was anymore.
She decided to take out her songbook, beginning to write, zoning out the world.
Austin Moon was definitely high on he the high school food chain. He had the looks, the talent, the personality, an all in one package. On his way to the "popular" table, he noticed one girl he had never noticed before. He didn't know her name, he didn't know her face. But he wanted too.
While Austin may be considered popular, he didn't exactly have the usual attitude. He didn't see one person higher than the other, that they were all equal.
Walking over there with his lunch tray, he set his lunch down on the seat across from her.
Flashing her a smile, he said "Hi. I'm Austin Moon."
The mysterious girl looked up from her just as mysterious book, looked at Austin, then looked very confused.
"Do you need something?" she asked, promptly shutting her book.
"No, it's just I thought maybe you would want to come sit with us. Me and my friends I mean."
Ally looked over Austin's shoulder to see the cheerleaders and football players standing and laughing.
"No thank you."
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Austin sat down.
"Then I'll sit with you then."
"You really don't have to do that."
"I already told you my name, so...what's yours?"
"Ally. Ally Dawson."
Thirty minutes later...
"Hey Ally!" Austin called out in the hallways, walking toward his lunch partner.
"Yeah?" She asked looking away from her locker.
"Do you want to have lunch tomorrow?" Austin asked, smiling.
"Sure." Ally said, and for the first time in a long time, she smiled.
A prologue of sorts; shorter than usual chapters will be. Will go more in depth about their first conversation. Later.
