Hunter twisted the lid off his beer and drank deeply as Coulson smiled at his makeshift contract, a simple napkin with his name on it. He was pissed that Bobbi and Mack would betray him and the team like this. He smarting over being taken so easily, but his pride was intact after escaping them so easily. Real Shield, more like Real shitheads. He just wanted to get back to base and see Skye, see her smile. Make sure she was coping with her powers.
It was strange how things had come about, Hunter could flirt, flirt with the best of them and after Bobbi had said that it couldn't go on between the two of them, told him straight up that there was always going to be things that she would have to keep from him, that was just the nature of their jobs. But that didn't sit well with Hunter, lies and secrets never did. He was simple, everything was either black or white, he had no place for grey areas.
Skye on the other hand was just there, a smile in place, she flirted back gave as good as she got without turning it into a argument. Not like Bobbi. No Skye was not like Bobbi, not in anyway. You could see when something was eating at Skye which made things easy to get from her. But Bobbi only showed what you wanted to see or what she wanted you to see.
From the moment Bobbi called quits and he had decided there wouldn't be another go at things the Brit had opened his eyes and for the first time taken note of Skye, really looked at her and seen her as more than just a colleague or friend. Those brown honey orbs full of wonder, excitement and joy. Her full lips, luscious and plump and just her in general, everything about her, her personality, how brave she was and even though she was changed from the temple, had lost someone so close to her, she was still so tough, so brave and he couldn't help but fall for her.
A kiss in a rush, in the heat of the moment and he thought he had ruined all chances of there ever being a them, but then she had turned up at his bunk the night after and he knew it was all going to be alright that the old charm had worked, this time the super secret agent he'd fallen for, didn't keep secrets from him.
"Oh, Hunter one more thing." Coulson's tone, that little change in how he spoke made Hunter pay attention, bringing him from his thoughts, something big had happened. "They may have Skye." Alarm bells were ringing now, his hand tightened visibly round the bottle.
"May? Either they have her or they don't."
"Skye's smart, smarter than them. May gave her instructions before they took over the base. There is every likelihood that she got out. Skye knows how to make contact, but with our limited resources they will be tracking her." Coulson was trying to be optimistic, stay focused and calm. Skye was priority one, they needed to find her and then retake SHIELD. But he couldn't help that little voice in the back of his mind that said they may have got her. But he would get her back, him and Hunter.
"They could have Skye? You saw how she was before you dumped her in that safe house, for "her own safety" you said, she would be okay there that nothing would happen. This other SHIELD could be as bad as HYDRA, they could lock her up as best case scenario and worst case they might kill her, especially is they see her power, see what she can do." Hunter slammed the bottle down spilling beer. He should have took Skye and ran, hid out till she had control and come back then. Instead he trusted SHIELD, trusted Bobbi and now Skye was gone. His Skye was gone.
"This isn't over Hunter, we will find her. You have my word on that. We will bring her back home."
