Chapter 1
The First Meeting
Alice was sitting at the counter impatiently tapping her fingers against the cold marble when the bell on the door rang indicating that someone was coming into the half empty diner. Without turning Alice instantly knew who it was. It was her Jasper. Her one and only. Alice turned to see him standing a few feet from the doorway. It was raining outside so the tall handsome blond man of Alice's visions was half drenched with water. He looked just like Alice's Jasper, just with a few exceptions. His face was grim and his beautiful eyes looked like they were pieces of caracole burned at the end of a dead fire.
When Jasper walked into the diner, it was only half empty but he hoped no one would be in it because of his burning throat. It's been three days since his last feeding and her pain and terror still rang in his mind. But when his deep black eyes settled on those gorgeous liquid gold eyes, he started to wonder. The owner hopped gracefully down from the high stool she was settled on and danced her way to him. She stopped in front of him. She was a petite woman with cropped jagged black hair and skin that looked ashen but looked as smooth as marble, like his own skin. She was wearing a black one shouldered long sleeved dress and a pair of ballet flats. He looked down at her and a wave of emotion come from her but he couldn't put a finger on it, it was like nothing he has ever felt before. For some reason he knew she wasn't going to attack him because she had the most beautiful smile on her face that he had ever seen. But then again he wondered why she was here and if she had anything to do with Maria.
"You've kept me waiting a long time." She said in a voice that sounded like the most beautiful song.
Jasper ducked his head like a good Southern gentlemen and said, "I'm sorry, Ma'am." With that Alice's smile grew wider to show a set of glossy white teeth. She offered him her hand and without hesitation took her hand not even thinking what it would mean.
"I have to explain a lot to you now. I'm just like you Jasper." She said as she pulled him to the door and they went outside.
"Wait, how did you know my name? What is yours Ma'am?" Alice let out a soft laugh. The rain was falling around them, but Alice didn't seem to mind and neither did Jasper.
"Come with me and I promise I will explain it all in time. You can call me Alice." Alice said with a little curtsy. She pulled Jasper along the sidewalk to the alley on the other side of the empty street. "This will lead to the woods; from there I have a room at a nearby hotel. We can talk there." Alice beamed as she said this. This is finally happening! She thought.
The emotion Jasper was feeling from her seemed to get stronger with every passing minute. "Excuse me? So you are a… you are like me?" He asked after they took another alley and finally came to the woods. Alice looked back at him with golden eyes.
"A vampire? Yes I'm like you but I'm also different." She continued walking and stopped when she came into a clearing that was lit by moonlight. It's beautiful here, Jasper thought, the trees seem to bend away so that the sky can be seen clearly and the moon is as bright as can be. Jasper was also pondering what Alice meant by 'I'm also different.'
"I guess we can talk here if you want. We don't have to talk at the hotel." Alice said as she twirled in a circle not sure what to do now.
"We can go on." Was all he said. Alice just nodded. She grabbed his hand again and she ran as fast as she could with her vampire speed.
