Returning

Tobias turned the corner and looked down the dark street. He glanced up at a sign on the corner he was standing beside. The sign read, FLEET STREET. Tobi took a deep breath and walked forward. People shot him confused looks.

A woman in ragged clothes came up to him and asked, "Sir, do you have any change you could spare? Please sir?"

Tobi ignored the woman and walked on until he found the building he was looking for. MRS. LOVETT'S MEAT PIE EMPORIUM, shown in big letters across the side of the building. The once bright, white letters had been worn away and had dimmed. Bits of the paint were chipped off, although it was easy to read.

Tobias looked through the window. It was too foggy to see through, so he went to the door and walked through. No one was inside.

"Hello?" Tobi called out in his strong British accent.

A woman in a red corset and a purple dress that reached just a little past her ankles, rushed down the stairs and walked behind the counter. She looked into Tobi's eyes, "May I help you sir?" she asked.

"May I ask your name?" replied Tobi.

"Vivianna Lovett at your service sir." she answered, "You may call me Viv though."

"Lovett as in… Mrs. Lovett?"

"No Dearie, Mrs. Lovett was my Aunt. I would visit this place in the summers when I was little and when she died, she left the shop to me." she wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead with the back of her wrist.

"I see. You do resemble her."

"I've been told that. I do have her hair, when I was little she taught me how to get my hair like this to get it out of my eyes and she never taught me another way to ware my hair… wait a second. How do you know Aunt Nellie?"

"I came in here when I was young. I came back to London and wanted to see if this place was still here." lied Tobi.

"I see," said Viv skeptically, "Well, do you have a place to stay love?"

"Well, I'm only here for a short while, you see-"

"No no. I insist. I've got room for one more and I won't let you look any further than here. Besides, I've been wanting some company." explained Viv, pushing Tobi up the stairs and down a hallway and into a small bedroom with black and white pictures and a bed stand next to the bed that took up more room than the bed.

"But-" Tobi was cut off by the door closing. Well, I suppose I'm going to be staying here for a while. thought Tobi. He dropped his leather bag on the floor and pushed it under the bed.

Viv pressed her back to the door and looked up, Please don't take him away. He's the only person I know. Please don't take him away again. she thought and then ran downstairs.
