Silence had overtook the ship aside from the small hum of the Tardis's engines and such but it was peaceful.
Rose slept soundly while the other tinkered under the console, dwelling into his own thoughts in the quiet.
The thoughts were far from simple and they raged on like a war in his head, a never ending war. This comparison only made the knot in his stomach grow.
This small task he had been doing for over an hour was only used as a method of calming him, but tonight it did nothing.
A small press of a sound-a voice-in his mind urged him to rest but he ignored the ship's concern and continued the task at hand.
He regretted the irresponsible comparison and gulped when thoughts begin buzzing in his mind causing him to stop abruptly.
I killed them, I killed them, I killed them.
Small tears made their way down his freckled cheeks and he wiped at them angrily, hating the fact that his mother just had to pass on these human emotions. Timelord's were supposed to be ruthless and emotionless, much unlike himself.
Genocide, Genocide, Genocide.
The alien sighed in frustration and defeat as he got out from under the console. Damn that word. It always seemed to come at the worst of times
He didn't understand why humans had to create such a vile word anyhow.
"Rose...?"
"Hmm?"
His voice almost sounded like a child when he spoke next.
"This word...what does it mean?" He asked, glasses perched on the bridge of his nose as he squinted and or glared at the unknown word.
"All mighty Timelord doesn't know what a word means?" She teased, coming over to peer over his shoulder at the word he pointed to.
Her eyes widened.
"Doctor I don't think-"
"No, come on Rose, I can handle it." he laughed. "Is it a swear or something?"
"G-genocide, it means a uh..." She gulped, already regretting what she was about to say. "the deliberate killing of a large group of people..."
He shook his head. It wasn't her fault, none of it was. But nevertheless, it still hurt immensely. The Timelord felt a small lump form in his throat and silently thanked whatever higher being there was that he was alone.
"Gah." He muttered in annoyance, wiping at his eyes and sniffling, trying to resist the sobs that threatened to overtake him. "Just a daft old man-crying over a stupid word." He chuckled out.
He tensed up when he heard footsteps behind him and froze.
"Doctor?" Rose asked with a yawn, walking over to him with caution.
He didn't have time to wipe his glittering eyes before the girl circled around him, not wanting to wait for him to face her.
Her curiosity quickly turned into concern. "Doctor, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, Rose. Just got something in my eye is all, allergies and all that." He tried, but the look she gave said that his lie was a bad one at that.
He was such a bad liar. The trembles and shakiness of his voice gave away that he had been crying. "liar." She spoke softly, putting a hand on his freckled cheek and looking into his shining eyes. Eyes much older than the rest of him and ones that now held tears just as well. "Leave you alone for five minute and-"
"Well, it's been more than five minutes."
Rose gave a small sigh accompanied with a smile. "It's an expression, silly."
"I was never best at those types of things..." He trailed off, feeling his cheeks flush with embarrassment.
"Expression?"
"No, being alone, never my best strength."
Rose took his hand in her own. "Well now," She kissed his cheek. "You don't have to be."
