Disclaimer - I own nada.
This is a scene I would put in the last ever episode of House if I were writing it. Thought of it at the same time as 'she never knew', but it needed tweaking. They kind of spawned off the same idea, I'm not just obsessed with an ill Cuddy. :P
The story so far - Cameron and Chase are getting married in three weeks time, and Foreman leaves for a new job in a week. Cuddy gets sick, and the team realise that this could be their last chance together as things are.
Please don't have a go at me in reviews for the lack of medical detail, I'm working on that as I work on the episode, but if I don't yet know what she has, I can't put a specific test in here yet. Anyway, it's not really that relevant to this scene.
A bit Huddy, but could be taken as friendship.
Cuddy's room
House is running a test if some kind on Cuddy. They have been silent for the last few minutes.
Cuddy: You know, I've performed this test hundreds of times on other people, and yet, I've never been on this end of one.
House: (His best imitation of incredulous) You have been silent for the entire duration of this, apart from the absolutely necessary 'yes, you can stick that huge needle into me'. So, naturally I thought you were on the brink of coming up with the solution to world hunger, and instead, you were noting how you'd never had a (insert whatever test you so please here) done on you.
Cuddy: Funny things run through your head when you're…
House: Dying.
Cuddy: Yeah, that.
House: You're full of crap. I know exactly what you were thinking.
Cuddy: Enthral me, House.
House: You're thinking: it's the end of an era, what with all these people leaving and moving on. It makes sense that some one should be dying, but why the hell isn't it House? He's the bastard after all. People can get up at his funeral, and make jokes about how grumpy he was. They can reason that, considering he's dead, it's safe to lie, and say that underneath it all, his heart was in the right place.
Cuddy: (Sarcastic) Right, that's what I was thinking-
House: (Interrupting her) But what would they say at the funeral of Lisa Cuddy? That she spent her whole life helping other people, believing that one day, when she was older she could live it for herself? That she was such a workaholic that she never did get to have kids or a family?
Cuddy: (Tears forming in her eyes) Why are you saying this?
House: Isn't it obvious? I want to motivate you to fight whatever it is that you have.
Cuddy: House, you're a doctor. In fact, you're the most cynical doctor I've ever known. Why are you really saying it?
House: (After a short pause) I'm trying to tell you that I love you, in a way that I can get out of if you don't die.
(PAUSE)
Cuddy: (Slowly) I bet you don't know what I'm thinking now.
House: Enthral me.
Cuddy: How much do you reckon a soccer team would pay me if I hired you out to them as a motivational speaker?
House: Not as much as they'd pay me if I got you to take your top off for them.
(He starts to leave the room.)
Cuddy: House?
(He stops and turns to face her.)
Cntd: If I live, I can just fire you – I love you too.
(He smiles and leaves the room, leaving Cuddy looking a little more cheerful.)
Reviews are my inspiration, so review away. No flames though, eh:)
