"Okay my idea of fun is not watching Charles try to get laid." I said to Raven as I took a sip of my drink. Raven laughed, a light sound that I enjoyed hearing. A sound that I had not heard as much lately. We were seated directly behind Charles and his new conquest at the bar, giving us front row seats to the show that was about to begin.

Ugh, you would think he would get tired of bimbos, but he doesn't.

I took another sip of my drink and frowned. I would give anything to be drinking a whiskey right now, instead of watered down lemonade. Raven laughed again seeing the expression on my face.

"What?" I asked her, peering at her from over the top of my glass.

"I just think it's funny that you're drinking lemonade. You aren't exactly underage." She said smiling. I rolled my eyes.

"I don't exactly look old enough to drink, and drinking lemonade is just so thrilling." I said sarcastically. "I can't get drunk anyway Raven, which sucks by the way."

"But you could still be drinking. Just get Norman to get you a drink. You can control minds, you know!" She exclaimed a hint of jealousy in her tone. "And while you're at it, get me a drink too."

"Says the girl who can look like whoever she wants, whenever she wants. You could just add a few years onto your appearance and just waltz right up there. Cool by the way, you may have to let me borrow it one day." I joked.

"Oh, I would if I could." She mumbled a frown darkening her face as she watched Charles and the blonde at the bar. I felt the jealousy radiating off her in waves, as she watched the blonde laugh and flip her hair, trying to draw Charles in.

Honestly it was working.

I focused my hearing so I could hear Charles clearly over the bar chatter.

"I've got news for you Amy, you are a mutant." He said giving her his charming smile.

If only he looked at me like that. Damn it. I always fall for the wrong guy. I can't be in love with him, I can't be in love with anyone. They just die, and I keep on living. Decade after decade, century after century, and I don't want to go through that again. Never again.

Amy pouted. "First you proposition a girl, and then you call her deformed. How's that seduction technique working out for you?" She cocked her head to the side.

Charles smirked. "I'll tell you in the morning."

That smooth bastard.

Amy blushed and smiled.

"No, no, you mustn't knock it. Mutation took us from single celled organisms to being the dominant form of reproductive life on this planet. Infinite forms of variation with each generation, all through mutation." He said smoothly leaning towards her.

I rolled my eyes. "He just had to throw the word reproductive in there didn't he." I whispered to Raven.

"Huh? I wasn't listening. I tend to zone out when he uses his nerd speak." Raven commented, looking over at me. The expression on her face was so funny, that I burst out laughing. Charles glanced over at us. I gave him a winning smile. He returned my smile and then turned his attention back to Amy.

"Then let's reclaim that word." Amy said, holding her glass up to his. "Mutant and Proud." The glasses clinked together making a crisp sound that echoed across the bar. Raven stiffened beside me, twisting that phase over and over in her mind. Her jealously exploded in her mind like fireworks. I reached over and put my hand on hers where it rested on the wooden table.

"Raven, she doesn't know what she's saying." I whispered to her. Raven moved her hand away, stood up from the table, and sauntered over to where they were sitting at the bar. I rose quickly and followed her over to the bar.

This is not going to go well.

Raven plastered a smile on her face. "Guess I have to buy my own drink!" She exclaimed enthusiastically.

"I'm sorry. One cola. Andy, do you want another lemonade?" Charles said smirking at me. I shot him a dirty look from behind Raven.

"Charles here was just telling me that I'm like one of the first sea creatures that grew legs." She said smiling and rubbing one hand down a fishnet encased leg as if exaggerating the point. I rolled my eyes.

"Tiny bit sexier." Charles said winking.

I think I'm going to be sick.

Amy smiled and laughed, an obnoxious sound that hurt my ears. I cringed away from her. "I'm sorry this is my sister Raven and my friend Andy." Charles said motioning to each of us in turn.

She cocked her head to the side, studying me. "Friend? How old are you anyway? 15?" She scoffed laughing loudly. I clenched my teeth.

Everybody has to take a shot at the age. I'm older than everyone in this bar, and yet I'm cursed to drink watered down lemonade and hear this bitch challenge me. You could say that my age is a bit of a sore spot. I've been alive for centuries, but I've managed to retain that youthful glow, so to speak. Raven doesn't know how old I really am, she just think my mutation slows down my aging and that I'm a few years older than I actually look. She doesn't know that my mutation stops my aging completely.

"I'm 18 actually." I said forcing a smile onto my face. "How old are you 35? 40?" I cocked my head to the side. Raven hid a laugh behind a cough. Charles shot me a dirty look.

A sneer played across Amy's face. "I'm 22, but at least I'm not named after a boy." She hissed out.

Oh, so that's how you want to play? Okay.

A smirk began to stretch across my face. "I was named after the Greek queen Andromeda. Whereas Amy sounds like something you name a scullery maid." I saw her entire past play out inside her mind. Taking her first steps, riding her horses, getting a Porsche on her 16th birthday. All of it. Her childhood filled with so much happiness, so unlike mine. Charles coughed awkwardly. Raven burst into laughter. Amy snarled, like literally snarled.

Are you kidding me?

I waited for her to challenge me again, but she only huffed out a breath and turned her focus to Raven. "So Raven, what do you study?" Amy asked her, plastering an obviously fake smile on her lips.

"Waitressing." Raven said without missing a beat, without hearing all the horrible things that Amy was thinking about her in that moment.

Judgmental Bitch. I thought to myself hearing every single horrible thing she thought about Raven in those few seconds.

Raven's hands were clenched by her sides. Amy looked away and in that brief moment of silence, I saw a plan form in Raven's mind. She shifted one of her eyes to it's natural bright yellow.

"Oh look you have Heterochromia too!" Amy exclaimed excitedly.

Charles whipped around, "Sorry what?"

"Look at her eye." Amy commanded pointing at Raven's face.

Didn't your mother teach you that pointing is rude?

Charles's eyes focused on Raven. She had a wide smirk on her face. I hid a smile behind my hand. "Right, Andy, Raven get your coats please." He said throwing money down on the counter. He ushered us to the door, leaving a very confused Amy.

"Don't talk to me, you did that on purpose!" Charles said annoyed, walking hurriedly down the sidewalk. I sighed.

"I did not!" Raven exclaimed angrily.

"Yes you did." He shouted not turning around.

"Charlie, you know she can't always control it, if she's stressed or tired." I said trying to keep up with his brisk pace.

"She seems to be doing a perfectly good job right now." He exclaimed turning to look at me.

"Charlie take it easy on her. You know how she feels about her appearance." I told him telepathically, while looping my arm in his, slowing him down to my pace.

"I know that Andy, but sometimes she takes it too far. Your behavior wasn't that great either." He responded. I rolled my eyes.

"That rich snob deserved everything I said. You should have heard the things she thought about Raven. Everything I said, was deserved."

Charles's smiled."It was really funny."

"So lighten up and laugh already!" I thought nudging his shoulder. He rolled his eyes, smile growing even wider.

"Mutant and Proud." Raven spat out mimicking Amy's voice exactly.

Charles's smile vanished immediately. I frowned.

Raven is so gifted, but she has never been able to look past her outward appearance. Which is kind of ironic if you think about it. She can be whoever she wants, but maybe she just wants to be her.

"What?" Charles asked, stopping us and turning around to face Raven.

"Or is that only with pretty mutations, or invisible ones like yours and Andy's, but If you're a freak you better hide!" Raven snarled out.

Her sudden hostility surprised me. Usually she was such a kind hearted person.

Charles tightened his grip on my arm.

"You're being ridiculous! Look I don't mean to sound like an old fart..." Charles paused. I could feel his worry. He always cared so much for Raven. He cared for her when no one else would, and me for that matter.

"Which you are." Raven said sarcastically. I laughed.

Leave it to Raven to know how to lighten a mood.

Charles smiled. "Sometimes, but we've talked about this Raven. A small slip up is one thing, a big one does not bear thinking about." He said seriously.

I shuddered. I've been caught a few times. All of which ended with me on an operating table with countless body parts being sawn off. Countless operations and surgeries, countless prisons raced through my head. Something I swore that Raven would never know, how cruel the world really is to people who are different. I took a deep breath. Charles looked at me, concern in his eyes.

"I'm okay." I thought squeezing his hand. The rest of the walk home was quiet.
