Summary: M'Gann said those 3 little words, after the dust settles Conner responds. Just a quick, short drabble.
I believe that was the first time M'Gann has said 'I love you' … and Conner gave no response during the 'battle'. When she said it I gasped and hoped he would have answered, but he didn't so I had to fix that… My first YJ drabble
M'Gann had said those three little words, "I love you". He had heard her loud and clear, but he had not responded rationalizing that everyone else might hear. Then everything had happened so fast. Conner knew that was no excuse, he should have responded to her. It ate at him knowing he'd inadvertently been such a jerk to her.
The Justice League had finally left after making sure everyone was alright. Conner had wanted to shout that they were not alright. It wouldn't have done any good so he held his tongue. M'Gann was still sniffling, at least her sobs had quieted those had torn at his heart. It had hurt that she had turned to Captain Marvel instead of him, but his silence at her confession could have been taken as rejection so she would not have believe he would have offered her any comfort. Of course that didn't stop him from gritting his teeth at the slightly-goofy superhero rubbed her back as she cried into his chest.
Quickly, before the Martian could leave the room, Conner stepped forward and wrapped her in his arms. As he tried to gather his thoughts, M'Gann murmured into his chest, had it not been for his superior hearing he wouldn't have caught what she said. "I thought you had died to protect us." She sounded so broken.
Tightening his arms around her, but not enough to crush her, Conner struggled to find the right words to comfort his girlfriend. "I'm here, M'Gann, its ok." They stayed like that for several minutes. The rest of the team left them in peace, going off to try and find solace for their own suffering. Once he was sure they were gone, Conner brought her face up so he could look into her eyes. "M'Gann, when we were separated, you told me that you loved me. Did you mean that?" His blue eyes searched her emerald for answers.
M'Gann blushed but didn't break eye contact. "Yes, Conner, I meant what I said. I love you. I didn't know if we would make it out alive and I didn't want something to happen before I got the chance to tell you." Her mind reached out to his showering him with all the love and affection she felt for the clone.
Overcome by her emotions, Conner pressed his lips to hers in a passionate kiss. He had never felt love before, but he could feel how she felt about him and if that was what love was, well he was in love too. He felt the same way about her. Pulling back, he framed her delicate face with his large hands. "I love you, too. I should have told you earlier, but I've never been good at saying things when they should be said." She smiled up at him; he could feel how content she was. He would never wait so long again to tell her how important she was to him.
Keeping an arm around her shoulders, Conner led them out to the common room with Wolf following behind. He would help her heal from the emotional backlash of the exercise just as she had helped him all those times before. She was the only person on the planet who loved him; he would do anything to protect her as long as he drew breath.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed.
