Draco's Garden of Tranquillity

He discovered this place accidentally, but now it has become his own personal haven. His sanctuary. It was like a ritual now. Every night at 10:30 sharp, he would walk out of his house and down an alley. Cautiously he would cross the road and enter his garden of paradise and tranquillity.

By day, it was just a kids playground, but at night, when he came, it was transformed into something more.

Slowly he would walk down the gravel pathway lined with trees. The light of the laps on them, made the trees look like guardians. The branches at first glance looked very threatening, but as soon as you took a closer look, you would see nothing but beauty. Albeit eerie, but non the less overwhelmingly splendid.

He walked, occasionally stoping to assess the exceptional magnificence of the leaves rustling in the slight wind. The colours changing continually, as the moving braches would bring them closer and closer to the light and then abruptly withdraw. It was almost like they were teasing. Playing a game. Closer, and closer and them when you finally think they will come into the light, retreating into the safety of darkness. But the colours as wonderful and intricate as those greens were, varying from the brightest of emeralds bathed in morning sunlight, to those of dark and wet moss, they still were not what he was so drawn to.

Yes it's true he could just sit or walk there for hours thinking of nothing but their loveliness, but what had really drawn him to this place was the strange and yet incredible feeling of safety and peace. Feeling of intimacy. It was like the trees were sharing their deepest secrets with him during those night walks. Sometimes he could even almost imagine a voice whispering and calling to him. Showing him the way to true happiness.

It wasn't something he could describe or identify. He couldn't just point his finger and say "Yes, it's coming from there. This is what makes this place great." No it was everything, and yet nothing in particular.

He continued walking past the trees until he got to the flower bushes on one side path and a swing on the other.

The night was bewitching. The moonlight was bleaching the colour from the rose bushes, but nothing could repress their sweet fragrance in the warm summer air.

Suddenly he heard the gentle song of a little bird from between the flowers. He swiftly walked through the tall grass surrounding the bushes. Rose petals fell as he passed, gently covering the ground beneath his feet. Cautiously he parted the flowers and discovered a little sparrow. It seemed like he was pouring his heart out in that simple song and the boy's soul connected with it.

Tenderly he reached his hand out as if to stroke his silky feathers, but then though against it and instead walked through the bushes, back to the swings.

As he soared into the night sky, he felt like he was flying. He felt aware of everything around him. The dark of the sky contrasting with the light of the moon; the fragrance of the roses in the warm night air; the cold metal of the swings on the warmth of his hands, but most of all the song that seemed like it was coming from the depth of his heart. It was at this moment that he felt true happiness. For the first time Draco Malfoy felt truly alive!
