Daddy Derek

There is a reason Marti and Derek have a special bond. Find out why.

Derek sat his room, a book balanced neatly in his lap. Photos of a young girl were placed orderly from birth to present in the book.

There was a soft knock at the door and Casey entered. Derek jammed the book under his pillow quickly.

"What do you want?" he snapped.

"Its time for dinner," She said and walked out.

Derek yelled, "I'm not hungry!"

Casey simply shook her head and sighed.

Marti sat in the backseat of the car, with Derek sitting on one side of her and Casey sandwiched on the other.

"I don't want to go to Mommy's!" Marti complained.

"It will only be for a little while… you'll be back before you know it." George said pulling into Abby's driveway.

Marti fussed all way up to the door.

"Derek, would you like to walk up to the door with Marti and Edwin?" George had asked.

"Yeah, positive," Derek said with a sigh, he just stared out the window.

"George, how nice to see you again," Abby said walking up to George's rolled down window, "Oh, hello Nora, Casey, Lizzie… Derek could I see you for a moment inside?"

Derek shook his head.

"Derek, go." George ordered.

"Derek, it's been a long time." Abby sighed grabbing his hand.

Her touch burned his skin and he yanked his hand away, "Abby stop it!"

Abby looked almost offended then her eyes softened, "Do you still think that this is wrong?"

Derek opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off.

"You were adopted, George doesn't know. I had a miscarriage and never went into labor, but a young woman about 17 had a baby boy which she didn't want, so I took him in." Abby blurted out.

Derek jaw hung open.

"So what we did wasn't illegal or incest." Abby said taking his hand again.

"What you did, not what we did and I never loved you! Damn it, how could I ever love any one like you! You fucking raped me!" Derek screamed as he stood up and walked to the door, luckily they were in the basement and nobody heard.

"Dad, don't let Marti stay with her!" Derek pleaded.

"Derek just because she and I got a divorce doesn't mean she isn't your mother. She has a right to have Marti stay with her." George said.

If only he knew. Derek thought tears stinging his eyes. George had always been clueless about Abby's escapades with Derek.

Derek didn't say a word the rest of the ride home. Casey looked at him expectantly and would every once in a while give him an easy line or two, but nothing. Derek's thoughts ran rapidly through out his head. If she raped me at 7, what will she do to Marti! I can't believe dad just left her there! Wait yes, I can because he never fucking listens… he's never home, and to top it all off he is allowing her to have Marti for the next two weeks!

Within 3 hours Derek was tossing and turning, nightmares playing over and over again. Lightning struck somewhere outside his window and thunder rumbled loudly. In all his tossing and turning he had woke up Casey. He heard the door open and his eyes flew open.

"Marti, are you scared of the storm?" he asked lovingly.

"Marti's at your mom's, remember?" Casey asked.

"What do you want?" he hissed.

"I heard something hit the wall." Casey replied. Derek looked at the bruise forming on his left arm.

"It must have been me." He said. Lightning flashed again and Casey caught sight of Derek's sweaty face. "Oh my gosh, Derek, are you okay?" Casey asked.

Derek looked at her fear in his eyes….

"No,"
