As Lily walked she thought about all the times she had turned James down, and then she thought about the one time she had said yes…
As Lily sat in the common room, with the marauders sitting exactly parallel her, she thought about the fact that James had changed so much.
In first year he had been nothing but a childish prat, and he had stuck like that up until the beginning of their seventh year.
He hadn't asked her out once, he hadn't been sexist against girls, he hadn't even played a prank yet, and it was already three months into the school year!
As she looked up at him, he seemed to look down, as if he had been looking at her, and started to blush.
She simply smiled at him, and he said, "Hey Lily, do you want to go for a walk down by the lake? I'm sick of hanging around in this place."
Lily nodded and stood, with the help of James, who had offered his arm so that she could use it to hoist herself up, since she had been sitting in a particularly soft chair which had practically sucked her into it.
Once out they both started to walk out the door, saying bye to their friends,
Once out of the castle James offered Lily his arm, and said, "Lily, I just want to say that I'm sorry for how I have acted for the last six years, and I just wanted to make it up to you by giving you this" he said before bringing out an emerald green satin box.
Lily reached cautiously out to take it form his hands. After looking at the box for a few seconds she opened it. Inside was the most beautiful ring she had ever seen.
It was silver, and was wound so it looked like ivy had grown and connected itself to a silver wall. The stone in the middle is what really made it beautiful though.
It was a Lily made out of the biggest most pure emerald Lily had ever seen. It was so beautiful that Lily almost didn't notice when James got down on his knee, and looked at Lily with nothing but pure love in his eyes.
Lily looked at him, and found her heart was racing so fast she was sure James could hear it.
"Lily, I have been in love with you since first year, and I know that up till now I have been an insufferable git, but I hope that you can see over that and realize that I would do anything for you." He said, his eyes now showing a sort of pleading puppy dog look.
Lily started to cry, and she was sobbing so hard that James just barely made out the word "Yes." in-between her tears.
He smiled, took the ring from Lily's hand and placed it on her ring finger.
By then her sobbing had stopped and she was simply crying, so she said "James, I love you."
He looked at her and said "I always knew you would."
That had been the happiest day of her life. After walking around for a bit they had decided to go back to the common room, where everyone ended up throwing them a party to congratulate them
Now they had been married for a month, and she was currently pregnant with their first child.
James was certain that it was a boy, and Lily was sure it was twins, since she thought that she was unusually large for only being a month and a half pregnant. (She got pregnant before the wedding, but only found out she was the day of the wedding.)
She walked into their house that they had inherited from James' parents, to be greeted by James, who hugged her, so she said "Jaes, I love you."
He smiled and laughed, saying "I always knew you would." some things never change.
