The battlefield was red with the blood from the bodies of wounded and dead, seeping into the ground. Bodies were butchered and slaughtered. Cries of agony could be heard from every direction.

Alexander and Hepaestion walked between the dead and wounded, stepping carefully around the bodies with reverence. They gave comfort where they could, assisting with liters when they could.

They walked silently, occasionally glancing at each other. They stopped in the middle of the battlefield and looked in every direction at the carnage in front of them, wondering how winning a battle could feel so much more like losing.
