She glided down the quiet corridor of the apartment complex as he trailed behind, silent and lost in thought as always. She was going on about the dinner; the splendid restaurant, the wonderful band and the delicious food. That remained a genuinely intriguing aspect of her to him. Her love for food had not been razed by her dominant craving for blood, very curious. Once he questioned her about this and she had answered him with a shrug, saying Food is good, whether you're a vamp or not.
She came to a stop at one of the ebony doors, the bottom of her blue dress swaying around her long legs. She pushed back a lock of her golden hair "I had a really nice time, Sherlock." She hesitated, delaying the end of their meeting.
"As did I." He tilted his head, assessing the girl in front of him, eye lashes fluttering, subconsciously twirling with a piece of her hair while leaning slightly towards him. Reaching into his mental library of endless information, he deduced quickly what he was supposed to do next.
He leaned his head down and pressed his lips against hers, counting in his head. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. On the count of five, he pulled away, nodding proudly to himself.
Her eyes were wide and she stuttered. "D-d-did you just kiss me?" Her tone was incredulous.
His eyebrows furrowed at her reaction. The books had prepared him for a different reception to that action. "Yes." He spoke slowly. "After the first date it is customary for the male to kiss his counterpart. That is, if she returns his affections." He looked past her head to the door, revising everything from the date hurriedly. "You had maintained eye contact longer than is considered polite, you laughed at an obviously horrible joke, you brushed your hand against mine multiple times, and you allowed me to walk you home. That implies an interest as they say." He returned his gaze to hers, waiting for her response
She raised her eyebrows at him, resisting the urge to grin. "You looked for signs to see if you could kiss me?"
He nodded absentmindedly, still searching his thoughts for the misassumption he must have made. "In actuality, it is possible that you are just shocked at the kiss itself, not that it happened. My research showed that it is considered best to keep the first kiss brief and chaste. Was it supposed to be longer? Did I do something wrong? Was it not enjoyable?" He pressed, curious.
"No, it was fine." She shook her head at the confused inspector. "I just didn't expect you to kiss me. I was surprised, but in a good way." She added.
He let out a sigh of relief. He had been correct, once again. "Surely you must have expected it in some way. I made it blatantly obvious for you, Caroline." He shook his head at her, repeating the girl's gesture.
"That you were interested?" She smiled.
"Of course."
