All I ever wanted was days out by the sun
To watch the world go by and take each day as it comes
All I ever wanted, a chance to catch my breath
To see the world go by and lay my ghost to rest
(Author's Note: I am NOT an X-Men genius. If I get some sacred storyline wrong, tell me and forgive me. Besides it's called fan FICTION for a reason. Besides, if I mess up something horribly wrong blame it on my obsession with artistic license. ;-) Oh yeah, this takes place about half a year of X2. Another note: The first two chapter might be short, so, if they are it's only because I have to build up a story first. Work with me here.)
Prologue
The room was bare save a small mattress, flickering lightbulb, and small metal table in the corner. And it was cold. So very cold. The teenage boy watched through the iron bars on the window as the sun went down on the city. It went quickly, kind of like watching a movie on fast forward.
Aaron Conway was a lanky sixteen year old caught up in a war, that, when it came down to it, had nothing to do with him. All he wanted out of life was to actually experience it. What he didn't want was what he had, but wasn't that how it always worked out?
He didn't want to be living in a six by four prison where he was being used by the likes of the brotherhood. What he didn't want was his powers. What he didn't want was this life. But God gave you this life for a reason. He wasn't overly religious. He had never attended church, read a bible, or really ever prayed, but if there was one thing in his life he believed in it was reason.
A reason for his past, his future, and there had to be a reason for his current situation. That was the only thought that got him through.
He had been living with the brotherhood for nearly two months now and he couldn't even remember why he had come to them in the first place. All he did know was that Magneto had promised to help him find something but he could not remember, for the life of him, what it was.
But there was one thing he did know. What Magneto wanted him for.
And it wasn't to polish his metal.
