(BTW this is after Rue has died)

Rue pushed herself up sighing. Rubbing her eyes, she looks around at her surroundings. "This, this can't be in the arena, can it?" the 12 year old wondered aloud. "Where am I?" She stood up and began to wander around. The tree she had been sleeping under had long strings of leaves that tickled her face when she walked out from underneath the willow. She turned around, drinking in her surroundings. A large crystalline lake was nearby, the water softly rippling from a gentle breeze. The willows tendrils swayed softly in the wind, also rippling Rue's hair. The sun bathed her in light and warmth. Rue felt a kind of peacefulness inside that she had never felt before. A bird's call broke the silence. Rue listened carefully, and then gasped. It was her melody. The one that meant working time was done; the one that meant safety in the arena. All of a sudden, Rue remembered something. "Katniss, where are you?" the girl cried aloud. She sprinted away from the shady tree she had sleeping under. The little girl ran through a meadow full of sunflowers, honeysuckle, and a bunch of other flowers. Some of them she didn't even recognize. Rue raced back to the lake, still calling out Katniss's name. When she reached the clear water, she fell to her knees and broke down, sobbing. She couldn't find Katniss and didn't even have a clue to where she was. Rue was oblivious to the water, which was shimmering. When she finally opened her eyes, Rue saw a picture in the water. It was Katniss! But, why was she crying? Something was in her lap. Rue leaned in and then gasped. It was her head. Her ally gently removed her knees from under her, as if she was asleep and trying not to wake her. She then saw Katniss leave, but then come back, her arms full of with dandelions, lavender, daises and many more types of flowers. The teen stooped down and set the array next to Rue. With shaking hands, she covered her with flowers. Weaving them into her hair, making a small arrangement for her to hold. Rue was baffled, but then she saw the last piece of the puzzle. Katniss was covering it. The spear that killed her and the bloody wound it made…

Hot tears once again overflowed Rue's eyes as she saw her ally stop as if to look at how she had done. "Take it." whispered Rue, tears dripping down her face. "Take my pack so you can do better. I want you to have it" As if Katniss had heard her, she gently lifted up her slight frame and cut the pack from her back. She gently set her back down and resumed covering her in flowers. Tears from Katniss's face splashed onto Rue's, creating patches of wet on her grubby face. Rue smiled sadly as Katniss stood up.

"Goodbye Rue." the teen whispered. She pressed three fingers to her lips as if kissing them and then faced them at Rue. A cannon fired, breaking the image in the water. Rue stood up and walked away, humming a lullaby that she had just learned.
