Guilty Pleasures
Disclaimer: I don't own Sandman. That honor belongs to Neil Gaiman.
Even Lucien has his secrets, though they are very few indeed. He knows that he should not have them, not with Lord Daniel's recent… "order", is the best word Lucien can come up with, to be more open about himself to others in the Dreaming. Lucien by nature is a quiet person, and he dislikes unnecessary chit-chat as he works, feeling that the library should be quiet-ok, decently quiet, he admits in the back of his head- in order to function properly. But while many residents of the Dreaming-Lord Daniel included- see him as a withdrawn, book-loving librarian, Lucien has another side to him that he lets very few people see-in fact, only Lord Morpheus and one other person know about it at all.
Lucien has a rather selfish side to him that many people do not suspect. He is rather overprotective of those few things he owns and cares for- something that Lord Morpheus knew and respected after he razed the library during the Nada affair and earned Lucien's anger for the first time in his long life. The Library of Dreams is one of Lucien's guilty pleasures- the other is his girlfriend, Carmen Prolux.
Carmen Prolux is a savior of the Silver City- one of the "miracle workers" the Creator sends out every few centuries or so when He feels that His word is not being heard properly. She is 24 years old, and very beautiful-and head-over-heels in love with Lucien. This is rare, to say the least, but as Carmen is the only female savior in some time, she figures that she should at least be allowed a little love. Lucien wonders if this has ever happened before, but he doesn't question it too much- he's happy to have Carmen in his life, and she feels the same about him. The fact that he even has Carmen at all still surprises Lucien at times, considering that his experience with girls is pretty much nothing in terms of falling in love. But Carmen is his, and he relishes that fact-something he is careful not to let anyone else know, lest he somehow lose one of the few things that brings him joy in life. Quiet though he is, Lucien has a few guilty pleasures he does not let out-and he wants it to stay that way.
