Because according to Facebook, I have known my Stormy for 8 years today, and a quick ficlet is the least of what I owe her
Mathilda peered through the window. The rain was lashing down so hard that she could barely see. As if to make it easier for her, Kai was stood underneath a lamppost. Typical brooding posture: arms folded, eyes shut. The grandeur of the moment was somewhat ruined by his drowned-rat appearance. His facepaint was streaked halfway down his neck and determinedly exploring further.
"Yep, still out there. He must be cold." She tried to keep her tone casual.
"I don't care." Ming-Ming's voice was just shy of a shout and well into sulking. "He can stay out there as long as he fucking wants, see if I care!" She snuggled further into the armchair, frowning so hard that her entire face scrunched up.
Mathilda rolled her eyes and went back to her book. Well, she had stopped concentrating on the book a while ago, to be honest. It was much more fun to watch Ming-Ming pretend to watch TV while actually glaring out the window with increasing frequency.
She knew how this would go. Eventually Ming-Ming would give in and go after Kai. Not to apologise, just to finish the argument. But giving in like that always made her moody for days, and if Mathilda had to sit in one more atmosphere that needed a hacksaw …
She shut her book, loudly. "Oh! I think he just looked at us!"
Ming-Ming whipped her legs round, half standing. "He so didn't."
"Did! Look!" She pointed aimlessly out of the widow. Ming-Ming flew to have a look. Just as Mathilda had hoped, the sudden commotion did draw Kai's attention. Just for a second, barely a twitch of his head, but Ming-Ming spotted it.
"He is a piece of shit!" she proclaimed at full volume, and sprinted out of the room.
Mathilda sighed with relief, and watched the rest of the familiar show play out. Ming-Ming ran to Kai, stamped her foot, shouted; he eventually got needled into shouting back. She did eventually look away when Ming-Ming's hip lowered and her head tilted and Kai finally unfolded his arms. Some things needed privacy (Or a video camera).
They were the stormiest couple she'd ever known.
All opinions welcome
