Percy stared into the sky blue eyes in front of him. They no longer shone with mischief like they did when he first came to camp; neither did they shine with love like they did when the two were alone together. They shone with desperation, a final plea for redemption.
Percy gave him the knife.
The eyes in front of him changed, a brief flicker of gold before they were once more the blue Percy had grown to love. They were hardened now, had a purpose. With a final look to Percy, he drove the knife into his mortal spot.
Percy would never realise he was the tether, the thing keeping him to the mortal world. Never would Percy realise how much he was loved by the boy; he would move on, he would forget.
Percy looked once more into the sad blue eyes as they fell to the floor. Gold flashes signified the Gods' presences but the commotion fell away around the pair. It was just the two of them, sharing a final moment of peace and clarity.
"Did you love me?"
The question surprised Percy, he thought his love was obvious. They had spent countless days together and, as much as Percy tried to hide it from his friends, it had grown to love. Their secret meetings, hidden iris messages and 'kidnappings' had brought them closer than they knew.
The Gods' gasped at the question, how could the traitor think that. They all fell silent though when they realised Percy hadn't denied it; Annabeth started sobbing against her mother, Poseidon glared at the dying boy on the floor and Hermes glared at Percy. They all waited for Percy's reply.
Percy fell to his knees next to the older boy, silent tears running down his face. He grasped the boys hand; no longer was he the betrayed traitor, this was the broken boy who had run away too young. Percy cried for the life together they had lost; he cried for the times the other boy had betrayed him yet always he was forgiven, and he cried for all the Gods' had done to cause this.
He looked into the blue eyes for a final time, sea green meeting mischevous blue.
Percy leant over the boy and placed a small kiss on the dry lips,
"Yes."
