Thank you mistletoe
Catherine and Lindsey had just finished putting the decorations on the tree when they heard a knock at the door. Lindsey jumped up from her spot on the floor to answer the door. As they weren't expecting anyone Catherine followed curious about whom their night time visitor was. Her question was answered when Lindsey opened the door and yelled "Uncle Gil". This just caused Catherine to become more curious and drawn into thinking about every reason Gil might be at her house. Before she could bring herself out of her thoughts, Gil was being dragged by Lindsey into the living room to see the newly decorated tree. Catherine turned and followed them back into the living room. All three of them stood and admired the brightly glowing tree.
After a few moments of this Lindsey broke the silence with the question that had been bugging Catherine since seeing Gil at the door, "Uncle Gil, why are you here?"
"What, I can't visit my favorite butterfly?" was Gil's reply.
"Yes, you can Uncle Gil, but you haven't been around lately." Lindsey answered looking at her mother for some kind of reaction to Gil being in their living room, but as far as Lindsey could see Catherine wasn't phased.
"It's Christmas and I needed to give my butterfly her gift." Gil replied as her took a small box from this pocket and handed it to Lindsey. Lindsey quickly torn off the paper to revive a jewelry box was what it hide. Inside the box was a beautiful butterfly necklace that Lindsey loved and quickly put on and ran to show Catherine.
"It's beautiful, Sweetie." Catherine said when she saw that Lindsey would not be happy with a simple nod. After gaining her mother's approval she ran back to Gil and engulfed him in a huge hug. Just then the phone rang and Lindsey ran to answer it leaving the adults alone.
Gil walked to where Catherine was standing and they just stood there and stared at each other. All either could think of was the fact that they rarely saw each other outside of work these days. First, it was due to the fact that Gil had been dating Sara but after that he had no excuse and either did she. Lindsey reappeared after a few moments to find them just standing and looking at each other. One thing did notice that either Catherine or Gil did, was the fact that they were standing under the mistletoe. Sliming she told her mom to look up. When Catherine did, she tried to utter a protest but was quickly cut off by Lindsey who insisted that it was tradition.
"Well, you can't break tradition." Gil softly muttered right before he leaned in and softly kissed Catherine. The kiss was gentle but filled with all their boxed up feelings from the last several years. As the kiss ended and they pulled back Catherine thought "Thank you mistletoe".
