Prompt: One character adjusting the other's jewelry/neck tie/ etc.
Laurel bit back a grin as Gareth painstakingly fixed his clothes. He flicked an invisible piece of lint off his shirt as he tucked it in.
Laurel carelessly ran her fingers through her hair as she straightened out her skirt. She made sure all of the buttons of her blouse were still buttoned, but she felt like she was presentable. Although, she should probably freshen up her makeup. But her makeup was in her purse, which was in her office. Not Gareth's. And the mid-afternoon romp they had in his office was definitely not planned.
Laurel perched herself on the edge of his desk and motioned for him to come closer.
"Oh no, that's how we got into this in the first place," Gareth admonished her. But he still moved closer.
"You kissed me first." Laurel tightened his tie slightly and smoothed her hand down the front of the jacket, hoping that he wouldn't notice it was slightly wrinkled.
"Perhaps."
Laurel rolled her eyes and adjusted his tie again. She wondered if he even owned a pair of jeans. He always wore a suit to work and one time she had seen him without a suit jacket. She was starting to wonder if his entire wardrobe consisted of suits and a closetful of plaid and checkered shirts. She lovingly ran her fingers through his annoyingly perfect hair and noted that one stubborn curl messed up his picture perfect look. But she liked it.
"Thanks," Gareth said.
"That reminds me, I got you something."
"You got me a present?"
Laurel couldn't help but notice the excitement in his voice, even though he tried to hide it. This thing between them was still a little new. They were just fooling around. He had been by her place a few times. She hadn't even been to his yet.
"I was out earlier and I saw something and I thought you'd like it."
"A present."
Laurel rolled her eyes, "Yes, I got you a present."
"Where is it?"
"You're worse than I am," Laurel mused. She loved presents. Loved getting them and loved giving them. She couldn't wait for her niece to be born because she was going to spoil that little girl.
"Hey, you brought it up."
"It's just something small, don't get too excited," Laurel said. She suddenly felt a little self-conscious. She had been out shopping the other day and randomly saw a pair of socks with Ronald Reagan on them. Of course she thought of Gareth and instantly bought them. But what if he didn't like them? What if they really were just hooking up and her gift changed all the rules? Or what if he wore those socks at her place?
"How long do I have to wait for this mysterious gift?"
"You can stop by my place tonight if you want. Or I can bring it in tomorrow."
"Tonight works."
Gareth groaned when his office phone rang. He reluctantly answered. "This is Gareth." He started to step away from Laurel when she used his tie to pull him back to her. "Okay, tell him I'll be right there." He hung up the phone and placed his hands on either side of Laurel.
"I'll see you tonight." Laurel playfully tugged on his tie and laughed when he fixed it again.
"I'll call you. Text me if you want me to bring dinner."
THE END
A/N: Oddly enough, I actually saw a pair of socks with Ronald Reagan yesterday. There were also JFK ones.
