Bella's point of view.
Everything hurt. Pain was everywhere - though the majority of it was in my head. I went to move my arm up to touch my head but I couldn't - my arm wouldn't move. I tried to wiggle my fingers, kick my legs, even just open my eyes - but it was like my body wasn't working. If I could have frowned while thinking I would have - what actually happened? Slowly as I thought things over it all seemed to come back to me. I was in the car with my Mommy and Daddy. We were on the way to the park, because daddy had said that I was a good girl all week and deserved a treat. My bestest friend Miss. Flopsy was sat on my lap as I hugged her. Daddy had gotten me the pink rabbit for my last birthday, and we did everything together! She knew all of my secrets because I trusted her a lot. A loud screeching noise had started and I was jolted forward. I banged my head on the back of daddy's seat, and I guessed I fell asleep because I didn't remember anything else. Were my mommy and daddy okay? Usually if I hurt myself they'd be with me, so why weren't they here?
After a little while of thinking I could hear voices, and tried to listen to what they were saying. Maybe the people knew where my mommy and daddy were.
"She's in a bad condition, Edward. Lucky to be alive. It's a miracle she came out with the amount of injuries she did." One man said. Was this girl he was talking about okay? She sounded like she had gotten into an accident.
"I know, Carlisle. But that wouldn't stop me from hearing it. There's nothing there. Completely blank." Another man spoke back to the first one. His voice sounded nicer, though. I liked it more.
"Then I don't know, son. We'll figure it out in time. Esme will be here soon, I'll speak to her and see what she thinks." Man one spoke again, now sounding a lot closer.
After a few moments my body started working again, and I blinked my eyes a few times. Immediately I closed them again, though. There was a really bright light and it hurt my head again.
"Isabella?" The man with the kind voice spoke, and I peeked through my fingers beside me where somebody sat. He was older than me, though not as old as my daddy. Maybe like my friend Maddie's big brother's age - he was in high school. His hair was a strange colour, that reminded me of copper. And his eyes were amazing! So pretty! I loved the colour gold, so I just kept staring at them.
"Isabella?" He asked again, though this time I frowned a little and shook my head.
"Bella." I corrected. The only time I was called Isabella was when I was in trouble. Like when I broke a glass in the kitchen, or when I got the carpet all muddy when I was playing.
"Bella, sorry." He shook his head a little, before leaning forwards a little - smiling a little at me. "Do you know where you are?" Letting out a small hum I looked around, my expression dropping once I realised I actually didn't know. I started freaking out. Where were my parents? They never let me go somewhere new alone.
Tears started building in my eyes and I shook my head, my lip quivering. "Where am I? Where's my mommy and daddy? I need to see them!" I sobbed. Before I knew it the copper haired boy pulled me into his lap, hugging me gently. I stiffened for a moment, though soon relaxed. I liked him. He was really cold and I liked it. I was too hot under the covers.
"Shh Bella it's okay." He spoke softly, wiping my tears away with his thumb. "You're okay, calm down."
It was only then that I saw the other man in the room. He was sitting on the opposite side of the bed, letting the copper man help me I guessed. He had really light blonde hair, and the same golden eyes that copper had. He was older than copper, though still not as old as my daddy. I gave him a small shy smile, and earned a kind one in return.
"Bella, do you remember what happened?" The blonde man asked gently, now standing up and moving to sit on the edge of the bed by me and copper. I scrunched my nose up a little and thought for a moment, before the tears started falling again as it all replayed in my head.
"The car. We-we were going to the park. There was a loud noise and I hit my head. Something happened to the car." I whispered, earning a nod from blonde. "Are my mommy and daddy okay? Did they hit their heads too?" They didn't answer at first, and I almost started crying again - though copper started rocking and shushing me again. After a moment of quiet he spoke up.
"Bella - sometimes people need to leave. Sometimes they're needed up in heaven as angels. Do you know what angels are?" He asked, looking down at me, to which I nodded.
"Yes. Angels are really pretty girls with rings over their head. They look after people."
Copper nodded. "Bella… your parents were some of those people who were needed to be angels."
I considered this for a moment. So my parents were angels and looking after people? That was nice, mommy always said she wanted to be prettier. But - what about me? I'm only little, I can't look after myself! Tears started falling down my face again and I shook my head, gasping in a breath. "Why'd they leave me, I'm only small!" I cried, to which copper hugged me again. I wrapped my arms around his neck and properly hugged him, squeezing my eyes shut.
"Shh Bella it's okay. They're looking after you from in heaven." He said softly, stroking my hair. "They'll always love you, okay?" I only nodded, still sniffling a little.
"Is everything alright in here?" That was a woman's voice. I moved my head to look around the room, eventually seeing a lady standing by the door. She looked nice - brown hair and… she had golden eyes too! I frowned at this, crossing my arms over my chest.
"What's wrong Bella?" Copper asked gently.
"Why does everybody have golden eyes? I want golden eyes it's not fair!" I whined, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Well I like her already!" Another new voice boomed, causing me to flinch as I looked up once again. Another man was stood by the door. He was huge! He must've been a lot taller than both blonde and copper. He had dark hair and a grin on his face, and golden eyes too. Maybe they were special people?
"Emmett you scared the poor thing." The kind lady said, moving to step into the room. I gave the two new people a shy smile, earning a bigger grin from the huge guy and a kind smile from the woman.
A squeal came from the doorway and I looked up, now seeing a much smaller girl stood there. She had short spiky hair, and was really small. She looked like a pixie. I giggled a little, earning another squeal from her.
"She's so adorable!" She cried happily, dancing across the room and coming towards me and copper. Her hands were immediately on my cheeks, running through my hair for a moment before leaning forwards and hugging me.
After a moment I felt copper stiffen and he spoke up once more. "No way." He seemed to be mad. Did I do something?
"Awh come on Edward why not? Does she-"
"I said /no, Alice!" He was almost yelling.
"She doesn't have anywhere else to stay!"
I stared at the pixie, who I guessed was Alice, and now smiled a little realising what she meant.
"You want me to stay with you?" I smiled, causing her to grin hugely and nodding her head.
"No Alice!" Copper said again, now causing me to frown, tears building in my eyes.
"You don't want me to stay." I accused in a whisper, tears now starting to fall down my cheeks.
"Edward you've made her upset." Looking up I saw somebody else by the door, a blonde woman standing there. She was so pretty. How come she wasn't needed as an angel? She looked like one. "Give her here."
She stepped over and took me from copper, who I assumed was Edward, and held me close to her, rubbing my back as the tears continued falling.
I didn't want to cry. I always cried when I got embarrassed, and because I was so embarrassed more tears were falling. I didn't want to be seen as a baby to the golden eyed people, so I wrapped my arms around the angel and hid my face in her neck, squeezing my eyes shut to try and hide from everybody else.
Edward's point of view.
As soon as Carlisle had called I knew something was wrong. He never called me in to help him at work unless it was an emergency. Sometimes I did join my father at work if there was a shortage of staff, or if I was just bored. I had a medical degree so I was fully trained to help with certain things. Carlisle enjoyed my company, too. I knew he did enjoy his time at the hospital, but his mood was always better when any of the family was around. I didn't need Jasper's gift to see that.
Though, something was different this time when he called. He sounded more upset by the accident than he normally would. Now, don't get me wrong, of course he was upset by anything that happened that was negative. Like the time one of the doctors at the hospital had been diagnosed themselves with cancer. But this was worse. I could hear it in his tone.
I had been sitting in my room when Carlisle had rung, my eyes closed as I leaned back against the wall that my sofa was sat against. Anybody looking in would have thought I was asleep - aside from the fact I wasn't breathing. I was too alive to be dead, however. My family knew that wasn't the case, though. I had picked up the phone and answered before a second could even pass - sometimes I did use having vampire speed to my ability. Out in public we'd never be allowed to do such things.
I was soon sat in my Volvo and headed to the hospital, eyes locked on the road in front of me. My father had told me the story that would soon sweep around Forks like a wildfire - it was such a small town that everybody knew everybody. Chief Swan and his wife Renee had gotten into a terrible car accident with their daughter. Some miracle meant that the girl, Isabella, had lived. Her parents had not.
I couldn't help but feel sadness for the girl as I thought it all over. I'd grown up with just my mother taking care of me. Yes, I did have a father. He did support me financially, and I guessed he thought he was giving me everything I needed. But from him always being away, and just not being as caring as my mother - I wanted a father. And I never truly had that. And when my mother had died from the Spanish influenza I never felt a greater loss. Even thinking back now it hurt to picture them, so I knew how hard it would be for Isabella. Especially since she was so small.
Once there, i immediately could see the car accident in people's thoughts, and it amazed me how the little girl had survived that. At five, almost six, years old - she had already been through a lot. She was extremely lucky to have gotten out of that and not be in a critical condition, from what Carlisle had told me over the phone.
I followed his scent towards the hospital room he was in and pushed the door open, closing it behind me and standing inside. I froze before I had even taken a step further into the room - my gaze locking onto the tiny human in the bed. The girl smelt so… nice. Like freesa. I'd never found a human so appealing before. A small growl started building up in my chest as I watched her, though never moved to attack her. I'd ruled out any sort of harm to humans years ago, after my 'rebellious stage' as Emmett likes to refer to it as. But her scent wasn't even the thing that shocked and worried me the most. She was silent. Blank. Nothing in her head. I knew she wasn't dead - I could hear the steady beating of her heart and the shallow breaths she was taking in as she slept. I couldn't fathom how I couldn't hear anything.
At this point Carlisle had come over, his hand on my shoulder as he watched me with concern. I could tell by his thoughts he didn't understand - how could he? He wasn't a mind reader like me.
"What's wrong, Edward?" He asked softly, my gaze eventually tearing away from Isabella and landing on him.
"I can't hear what she's thinking." I spoke somewhat stiffly, confused and slightly worried.
Carlisle seemed to look puzzled for a moment, furrowing his brows and glancing back towards the girl before his gaze landed on me once more. "Nothing at all?"
I shook my head, now moving to sit beside the girl, eyes back on her as I let out a small unneeded breath. "Can't be. I've read people's minds right before death." I grit my teeth at that.
"She's in a bad condition, Edward. Lucky to be alive. It's a miracle she came out with the amount of injuries she did." He spoke as if that was the answer, though again I shook my head towards him.
"I know, Carlisle. But that wouldn't stop me from hearing it. There's nothing there. Completely blank." I sighed, running my hand over my face for a moment.
"Then I don't know, son. We'll figure it out in time. Esme will be here soon, I'll speak to her and see what she thinks." He shot me a small reassuring smile and I nodded, watching as he moved to sit on the other side of her and start checking through her vitals - before going back to watching the girl.
Listening to her steady heartbeat gave me some hope that she'd be somewhat okay. A quick recovery meant more time for her to heal emotionally, I guessed. It still was worrying me why I couldn't read her mind, I sat trying so hard just to see a glimpse, but still nothing.
Her heartbeat seemed to speed up for a moment, her breathing starting to get faster in its pace, and eventually her eyes opened. Big brown eyes that soon had squeezed shut again, the light being a little too much for her. She must've had a headache, as her hands were soon clasped over her face.
"Isabella?" I called out gently, not wanting to frighten her by being too loud. Her fingers soon moved and her big brown eyes glanced out from underneath them, seeming to scan me for a moment. It was evident in her features that she was thinking - I just couldn't see /what/. Her eyes seemed to lock with mine and a small smile seemed to be hinting at her lips, causing me to call out her name once more.
She shook her head however, now speaking for the first time "Bella." She replied in a quiet voice.
"Bella, sorry." I apologised gently, glancing over towards Carlisle - who was letting me handle this for a moment - before looking back towards Bella. I shook my head before leaning towards the girl a little, mainly so she could hear me as I kept my voice down. I put a gentle smile on before speaking again. "Do you know where you are?"
At this she seemed to realise something was wrong. Her eyes darted around the room before soon filling up with tears, her head shaking as she gasped in a small breath. "Where am I? Where's my mommy and daddy? I need to see them!" She started sobbing, tears now falling faster down her flushed cheeks.
Without thinking I had pulled her to me, my arms wrapping around her gently - making sure I didn't crush her. It had taken years to perfect, but I was able to control my strength completely with no trouble. "Shh Bella it's okay." I soothed, closing my eyes for a moment as I held her against me. I could feel her warmth through my shirt and it was nice, her small hands pressing against my arm making her feel so nice to hold. I grit my teeth for a moment and shook my head, now clearing the thought from mind. "You're okay, calm down." I looked down at her, wiping her tears away with my thumb gently.
From that moment on it had been harder, for both Bella myself and Carlisle. She had asked about her parents. Carlisle had to deal with this sort of news a lot more often than I did, so I had offered to explain to her what was going on. I tried to put it in the most gentle way I could, talking about angels in the way my mother usually would to me. That's where my belief of heaven came from, really. She'd tell me stories when I was younger of angels flying between the heaven and the earth, and fuelled my belief in god and heaven. It had been gentle and calm for me to understand all those years ago. So I had told Bella the same thing.
After that the family had come in. I had heard their thoughts all the way down the hallway, of course, but I was too preoccupied with Bella to actually pay attention to them. That was until they were actually in the room with us.
Look at the poor thing. Bless, she's so small. It's devastating what happened to her parents. She's going to have such a tough time. Esme didn't surprise me at all with her thoughts. She was as caring to me and my adoptive siblings as she was to complete strangers. A child was a child in her mind.
Wow that thing is actually kinda cute. She wants our eyes, nice. Liking her already. Hey Eddie just take a bite and give her what she wants. I growled lowly at Emmett, keeping quiet enough so Bella wouldn't hear it. He did and laughed.
SHE'S SO CUTE! That's the most adorable girl I've seen in a while. She'd be perfect in a pink dress, though. I'll have to bring some things in. No, maybe blue. No, purple. Alice didn't surprise me, either. Leave it to her to think of clothes. Wait a minute... she's got nowhere to go. Maybe we could take her in-
I started growling before she had even finished, immediately hissing towards her the predicted and highly logical no. Bella, soon understanding what both of us meant had started to cry, though. Resulting in Rosalie shooting me daggers as she took the girl from me and held her gently. She was thrilled to be holding a human child at last, though the deep rumble of a growl was growing in her chest at me since I had made her cry.
As soon as the girl was asleep I stood up, growling louder at Alice.
"Are you insane?!" I whisper-yelled. Bella didn't need to wake up again. "Do you know what we are?! We'd kill her, Alice! No way!"
"Edward she doesn't have anywhere else-"
"And she doesn't have one with us either." I glared.
"Edward, think it through a moment." Esme spoke up, my glare softening a little as I looked back towards her. "She has no home. No other family. Maybe we could just take her in for a few days until child services can come and sort something out." She said softly.
My eyes darted between everybody in the room for a moment and I let it a low growl, before storming out and passing Jasper in the waiting room as I headed towards the exit of the hospital.
Alice's point of view.
Once Edward had left the room I was tugged into a vision, my eyes seeming to glaze over as I stared at the floor, letting the vision run through my mind.
Bella giggled as she listened to Emmett speaking to her in the car, clutching a small rabbit toy in her hands as she leaned back in her seat. After another moment she had broken into a fit of giggles, causing Emmett to grin at her fondly.
Before I could even react to that one I was dragged into a second one.
Bella let out a laugh, sitting on the floor of our living room as she played with Jasper, Emmett, and Edward. She looked to be about six or seven years old, her hair a little longer and her body a bit taller. After a moment Emmett had lifted her up and started tickling her, causing her to squeal with laughter as she tried to kick him away from her.
It was definite. She was staying.
I let out a squeal of my own, earning a glare from Rosalie, and dashed out of the room towards the waiting room where Jasper had been seated. I understood his caution, he didn't want to harm Bella. Once I had spotted him I practically pounced into his lap, bouncing on the spot as I felt his arms wrap around me. His eyebrow raised at my emotions but I just grinned and squealed: "She's staying!"
He let out a soft chuckle though tightened his grip on me, pressing his lips against me to calm me down. I felt him pushing tranquility into me and didn't complain, grinning goofily at him once he had pulled away. I loved my man sometimes.
"Calm down, Alice. She's not going anywhere." He chuckled softly, wrapping his arms around my waist tightly as I leaned against him.
"Sorry." I giggled, still bouncing a little on his lap as I thought it over.
Edward was going to be a pain in the ass over this, that much I could tell. His reaction was completely unnecessary! She was a child, so her scent was weaker than any of an adult's. We spent time around teenagers all the time and we never once attacked them. So what if we had to hunt more often? This wasn't all about him.
"How come Edward went into a tantrum?" The southern drawl pulled me from my thoughts and I let out another small giggle, glancing back towards Jasper after a moment.
"He's sulking because we all want her to stay."
He smirked and nodded, leaning forwards and soon pressing his lips against the back of my neck. He hummed against my skin as he started planting kisses over it, causing the same goofy grin to return to my face.
"Edward being Edward, then." He muttered against my stone skin, causing me to nod as I basically melted into him.
"Edward being Edward." I agreed in a faint whisper. My voice seemed to fail me whenever Jasper decided to 'mess around', as Emmett called it.
After a moment he pulled away and I scowled, causing a chuckle to escape his lips. He leaned forwards and kissed me for a moment, before pulling back again and grinning. "Let's get Bella home first, doll."
I nodded, wrapping my arms around his neck and kissing him once more, before going back to bouncing in his lap. I couldn't wait.
Hiya! So, I'm back? I can't promise that I'll update as frequently as I want, but I'll try to write this story. I think the problem last time was that I was going for too much at once, and I couldn't do it. So this is my focus.
Just to clear up things from my last story - I had meant to give credit to the original creator. I had a thing written to just copy and put it into the start of the chapter, but I had completely forgotten! So I'm really sorry! No, I won't be updating that at the moment, but I'll try if updates on my page become more frequent and I get more time.
Anyways, this is a rewrite and continuation of a story I've written before, Little Bella. If you've read that then great, and I'm sorry about abandoning the last one. I'll try to keep this going, even if the updates aren't frequent at all I won't abandon it.
If you haven't read the last one, then I suggest not reading it since a) it's really bad and b) you'll get spoilers for the future of this one.
I'll be changing a few things here and there about it so it's not an exact replica, but it is the same plot yes.
Thank you for reading! I'd appreciate reviews to see what you liked about this, and what POV's you want next chapter.
Love y'all 3000!
