Elsa's Glasses

A/N: This is the shortest one shot I've ever written. Normally I try to at least go for a thousand words, but this was an idea I really wanted to get out there.

Late one afternoon, Elsa read over the latest series of letters that she had received. Few people knew that the queen needed glasses to help her when reading. Truth be told, Elsa always hated the fact that she had to wear glasses, even if they were only for reading. She thought they ruined her image; made her look dull, and ugly. But she couldn't read well without them, so they were an unfortunate necessity. The big black frames that hung over her eyes were so wide, Elsa thought she looked like something you would see in a circus. She started wearing them when she was in her early teens, when her vision started to weaken. Fortunately, she only needed them for reading; she dreaded the idea of the entire kingdom seeing her wearing glasses.

As Elsa finished reading the last sentence of a letter, the door opened, and Anna walked inside.

"Good afternoon, Elsa!" she said. "Oh, I love your glasses!"

"Huh?" Elsa said, still caught up in what the letter told her. She totally forgot that she was still wearing her reading glasses.

"Oh, these stupid things," she said, taking them off at once. "They're awful. I just need them for reading. My eyesight isn't the strongest when it comes to reading things up close. Although I could wear them anytime if I wanted too.

"I didn't know that. How long have you worn them?"

"About ten years," Elsa guessed. "I'm just glad I don't have to wear them all the time. God forbid, the whole kingdom should see me."

"Why's that bad? I think they look nice. Plus, sometimes change is a good thing."

Elsa smiled. "Thank you, but "nice" doesn't equal appealing. A queen wearing glasses is not the ideal image of a ruler."

"Forget about that, Elsa. It doesn't matter what you look like. It's what you do as a ruler that counts, and you do a great job. Besides, I think you look beautiful with or without glasses," Anna said.

"Thank you, Anna. You always know just what to say to me."

"My pleasure! And if it makes you feel any better, whenever I see someone wearing glasses, I think they must be smart. And we both know how smart you are."

Elsa laughed. "Flattery will get you places, Anna. Anyway, I've finished up reading the last of my letters. What do you say we go pay a visit to Kristoff?"

"Sounds great!"

Elsa picked up her glasses off the table, putting them on. When Anna noticed the change, she pointed it out.

"I thought you said you didn't want the kingdom to see you wearing glasses."

"I did, but then again, sometimes change is a good thing. Someone really smart told me that," Elsa said, smiling at Anna.

Anna beamed with happiness. "It takes one to know one, Elsa."

A/N: This is just a quick, short idea I had that I thought I'd share. I know the kind of glasses in the profile picture, probably wouldn't be the style they had in the 19th century, but I'm just making an exception this once. Let me know what you think. I appreciate the feedback.
