Confetti rained down on the happy couple as a cheer arose from the assembled guests. Tess looked stunning in her dress, a beaming Evan by her side. Hayley stood on the outer edges of the crowd smiling happily; she'd been waiting for this day for the last few years. Finally her dream was coming true.

She had long emulated the desire to be like Tess. To follow in the footsteps of the only person she truly loved. She had yet to tell Tess her secret, hadn't wanted to disappoint her in the lead up to the big day. But today she had finally learnt the outcome of her dreams.

"Hayley come here, we need you for the photos," called Tess.

The time was obviously not right, it would have to wait. Hayley joined the group having their photo taken. She stood between Tess and Evan who both drew her into a warm hug.

"You look happy," said Hayley.

"And why wouldn't we be," Tess answered.

"Okay people, time to go to the Imperial for the reception," said Tom.

"Yeah, and the drinks," yelled PJ.

"Don't forget your duties though PJ," Tom reminded him.

"I won't let anybody down Boss," PJ said a smirk on his face.

Chris had done a fantastic job with the Imperial. It was decked out just like a posh city hotel would have been.

The bridal Party were seated at their table, Ben as MC took to the microphone.

"Ladies and Gentleman oh yeah and PJ," the guests gave an obligatory laugh. "We all know why we're here to celebrate the union of this happy couple. What can we say except, why did it take you five years to do it?"

More laughs followed as Ben introduced each of the speeches. They were nearing the end when Tom went over to Ben and whispered in his ear.

"Okay we're breaking from tradition here but Tom has an announcement to make."

"You all look like you're dying to get onto the dance floor so I won't take too long. You all know that I'm retiring and we're awaiting a new Senior Sergeant. Well the position was filled just over a week ago. I asked the brass to keep it a secret until today. Senior Sergeant Tess Gallagher congratulations."

Tess was enveloped in Evan and Hayley's arms in a congratulatory hug, as applause swept through the room.

"Tess, I have something to tell you to. I got accepted into the police academy. I start in 6 weeks."

"Oh Hayley," words escaped Tess as more hugs followed.

"Righto people, enough of the warm fuzzies lets get on with why we're here. PJ best man speech thanks."

"Ah the happy couple, don't they look just so happy, I couldn't be happier for them. It's wonderful to see them so happy," gushed a on his way to be drunk PJ.

"Thanks PJ, sit down mate before you fall down," laughed Ben.

"Well that's about it, except to say have a great night, enjoy the dancing. A final toast to the happy couple." Ben waited as the guests stood and charged their glasses. "Tom and Grace."

"Tom and Grace," rang out around the room.
