Disclaimer: I don't own Glee or any of these characters… if I did, Karofsky wouldn't exist anymore, Jesse wouldn't have been such an asshole (albeit one I believe legitimately fell for Rachel), and there would be a LOT more Blaine.

A/n: So this was just an idea that came to me last night, because I realized I wasn't satisfied with the fact that there really wasn't any resolution to the whole Kurt crush in Duets. Oh, and this is my first fanfic in three years!

Sam wasn't stupid; his dyslexia didn't make him slow at anything except reading. So he understood all of the signs the first day he talked to Kurt. He'd been there before, after all. More than once, actually. Sam had gone to a private school similar to the Dalton Academy Kurt had been talking about for the last couple of weeks, minus the dorky uniforms and the really great glee club. There had been a really strict bullying policy and everyone had been pretty accepting of everyone else, although for some reason a couple of guys had somehow gotten the idea that Sam was a closet case.

Sam wasn't sure if talking to Kurt about all of this was a good idea or the worst idea he'd ever had; he hadn't really nipped it in the bud at his old school and it had taken a while for him to get across the message that he was straight. All Sam knew was that he needed to talk to Kurt before the whole school decided that Sam was in the closet.

"I wasn't expecting to see you here, Sam Evans." Sam looked up as he heard Kurt's voice approaching him.

"Yeah, I sort of wanted to talk to you about… stuff." Sam moved over so that Kurt could get into his locker, still leaning against the metal.

"Stuff?" Sam sighed.

"Mainly about the fact that you apparently think I'm in the closet."

"Oh." Sam could tell that Kurt was uncomfortable, but the smaller boy was doing his best to hide that fact. "Is there some reason you feel the need to bring up how embarrassingly wrong my gaydar is?"

"Mostly I just wanted to make sure that we understand each other," Sam replied. He turned away and stared at the wall across from the lockers for a minute. "If it makes you feel better, you were right about my hair. Well, partially… it's lemon juice, not dye." Sam glanced at the boy and caught the flash of a smirk.

"Well, at least I wasn't completely wrong about you." Sam smirked.

"Would it help if I told you that you weren't the first person to think that about me?"

"I already knew I wasn't the first… some of the girls were convinced when you first got here, too," Kurt replied. Sam nodded. He'd known that, given his conversation with Quinn on their first date.

"You're like the third gay guy that's been convinced I was batting for your team."

"But of course you're batting for the opposite side," Kurt finished. Sam watched as the other boy closed his locker. "But have you ever even tried it? Being with another guy, I mean." Sam shrugged.

"Depends on what you mean by that…" Sam watched Kurt's reaction to his comment, not at all surprised at Kurt's shock. Sam smiled, shaking his head. "It wasn't a big deal… but I'm definitely not gay."

"If you're not gay, why weren't you afraid to sing with me? Most straight guys wouldn't be caught dead doing anything that would make people question their sexuality." Sam shook his head, smiling.

"You do realize that you're talking to the kid who learned Na'vi in less than two months, right?" Sam asked.

"God… you really are a geek, aren't you?"

A/n: So yeah, there's the story. Let me know what you think!
