He figures as he sits there that he should've known this would happen. It's happened to almost everyone that's partnered off with him…with the exception of Cassidy. And that was mostly because they'd never done anything that would result in this.
He wonders what it feels like to see your life flash before your eyes. And he figures that if he has to find out, he hopes it's soon before he has any more time to think about it. Leaning back in the waiting room chair, he closes his eyes, silently cursing as he waits for something…anything, really, on the state that his partner is in.
After a while, the sounds of the hospital start to echo in his ears, and he sits up straight again, wishing that it would go away. But it doesn't. And he figures that as long as things are running properly, maybe his partner has a chance of surviving despite the wounds he sustained. Then again, life has always had a nasty habit of throwing unexpected events in his face.
When the waiting room doors open, he stands, almost anxiously, wishing that he wasn't the only member of the squad present. But he is, and since none of his partner's family has showed up, the doctor deems it appropriate to tell him everything. When the doctor leaves, sinks back into his chair, a look of obvious relief spreading across his face.
At this point, he continues on his train of thought, cheered by the fact that his partner will make it, and figures that maybe he isn't quite as jinxed as he thought.
A/N: Yeah, so...kinda late, I know, but for some reason I was thinking of Munch and the episode 'Haunted' at the same time...don't ask. Anyways, LOSVU isn't mine. Never has been, never will be.
