Hey this is my first fanfiction so please tell me how well i did! I do not own any of the characters, that goes to dreamworks and disney! thanks for reading!
Blue paint swirled across the wall, creating the sky and every floating light in it. They dotted the sky, just out of reach. It was a far-away dream, Rapunzel knew. As she ran her fingers along the painting, she couldn't help but daydream of the moment that she would finally be able to see them. They were calling her name, you know, or, at least, that's what she liked to imagine. All of those beautiful, twinkling lanterns lighting up the night just for her. She closed her eyes and pictured it. A warm, spring night…
Right then a chilly breeze swept over her shoulders, he hair rippling. Rapunzel opened her eyes, her hand still on the painting. A low whistle echoed behind her, and that's when she turned around.
"Wow, Blondie," the tall, snowy-haired boy chuckled, his eyes wide as he exaimed her painting. "That's- amazing."
Rapunzel looked back up at the wall from her place on the mantle, examining her work. It had turned out beautifully. She quirked up a smile at Jack Frost. "I like it too," her voice was full of longing, the lanterns calling her name. She cleared her throat. "Haven't seen you around lately, Jack."
Jack rubbed the back of his neck, scrunching his pale features. "Yeah, well, it's been a pretty interesting week," he was looking down at something in the palm of his hand, but he closed his fist around it before she could get a good look at it. Rapunzel hooped down from her perch and shuffled over to him.
"What's that?" she asked curiously. Jack dropped his hand to his side and looked her over carefully.
"Do you remember when I told you about the Guardians?" he squinted at her.
"Sure, you said how they were uptight and bossy-"
"I'm a Guardian now."
The statement was blunt, but proud, and now that she looked closer, Rapunzel could notice small changes. Jack's shoulders were held higher, his chin lifted. The smile on his face was not forced at all, the sadness in his eyes wiped clean. She could see the grip on his staff was more sturdy, and his bare feet no longer fidgeted like he was being watched. She didn't speak, but waited for further explanation.
"I'm a Guardian," his face lit up as if it were finally setting in on him. "Punz, I'm a Guardian!"
Rapunzel couldn't help but smile for him, even if it was a little more forced. "So you came to say goodbye?" she swallowed back the choke in her throat. Jack's expression wavered, remembering the matter of his visit. He held back up his fist.
"I want you to hold onto something for me," he opened his hand to reveal a miniature Russian doll that looked like himself, smirking. Rapunzel took it in her hands gingerly, feeling the importance of this small doll.
"What's this?"
Jack watched her expression carefully. "It's my center. Guardian of fun."
She looked back up at him, astonished. "I can't take this."
"North told me to keep it in a trustworthy spot and I've never trusted anyone more than I trust you, Rapunzel."
She looked down at the doll, tears welling up in her eyes. She shook her head.
"I'll try to come back," he said painstakingly as he gave her a tight hug she didn't return. Rapunzel closed her eyes, not wanting to watch him leave. When she finally opened them again, there was nothing left but frost marks on the floor. The window swung freely in the breeze. Jack's words rang in her ears as she stared down at the figure, forever etched in her mind.
