It was a nice summer day, not just any summer day it was Jamie Scott's 5th birthday. Normally he would be at the house with his Momma, but his father decided to take him out to the rivercourt.
Lifting Jamie up, Jamie shot for the basket, and in it went. "That's my little guy!" Nathan says smiling and putting Jamie down. "Why so glum little man?" Nathan said kneeling down. "I wish Grandpa Dan was coming tonight." Nathan looked into Jamie's eyes. "I know, but we talked about this. Your grandfather did a lot of bad things and Mommy and I just don't think we can trust him just yet." Jamie looked up at his Dad. "Still-" Nathan held out his hand. They walked over to the bleachers.
Nathan knew his son was disappointed. "I've got a surprise for you though. I know i'm not suppose to tell you." Jamie's frown disappeared in no time. "Is it a present? Daddy?"
Nathan got up and looked at him. "I don't know if I should tell you. Mommy won't be happy." Jamie looked around. " I can act surprised!" Nathan laughed.
"Grandm-"
Jamie jumped off the bleachers and started jumping up and down. "Grandma Deb's coming home! When's she coming? When can I see her?" Nathan smiled. "I think she's home helping mommy now."
"What should we do now Jimmy Jam? It's your special day. Should we go see Uncle Lucas?"
Jamie looked up at his dad, his hero. He still couldn't believe Grandma Deb was at his house right now, he hadn't been this excited since he heard Lily was coming home for Uncle Lucas' wedding.
"It doesn't matter, as long as we go home!" Jamie said smiling. Nathan winked at his son. He stopped and looked out in the distance. Jamie got up on his tippy toes and looked in the same general direction."Jimmy Jam! What's that? Who would leave that there?" Jamie looked up at his dad and ran over to the obviously planted birthday gift. Nathan had planted it there when Jamie was looking at some bugs by the basketball hoops.
By the time Nathan got over there the paper was everywhere, as Nathan attempted to pick it up, he felt a tug at his jeans. "DAD! YOU'RE THE BEST!"
Without looking down, "Even better than Superman?" Nathan looked down, he expected to see Jamie looking at the present, but he found it already on him.
Nathan had been trying to find his first basketball jersey but couldn't find it. Nathan and Haley had been searching through boxes and boxes of clothes but couldn't find it anywhere. They never found that jersey but came across the jersey. This was the year that Nathan had met Haley, the jersey meant so much to Nathan that he thought it was only fair to give it to his son.
"No Dad. You're more like Batman! Because you don't have any powers!" Nathan bent down again fixing the jersey on his son. "But what's your power than? Since you're superman and all." Jamie smiled at his father.
"Well i'm cute!"
Nathan was holding Jamie's hand and walking down the road. "So am I getting a sister or a brother?" Jamie asked. Nathan looked at him, "Mommy doesn't know, but something tells me you'll be the first to know. We just want you to know, that you will never be pushed aside, we're going to depend on you, you're going to have to look after the new baby"
Jamie smiled. Nathan stopped walking. "What do you want it to be? A baby girl or a baby boy?"
Jamie looked at his father and stopped to think. "Having a little sister would be fun. But having a baby brother would be cool, we'd be like you and Uncle Luke!"
Nathan smiled and picked his young son up.
"That's right. You'd be the older brother like Uncle Luke, and-"
"No Daddy! I'd be like you! Uncle Luke has to much Drama!"
Nathan let him down and chuckled. "Let's go see Grandma Deb and Mom."
