Ruby red
"Lily, Lily, Lily" James was muttering to himself whilst sitting in the Three Broomsticks with a pint of butterbeer in his hands. He couldn't believe that Lily had actually agreed to go on a date with him. After two years of being continuously rejected by her, he was astounded that Lily had said yes.
A black haired, bespectacled boy was sitting in the Gryffindor common room, subtly waiting for a beautiful redheaded girl. When said girl entered, hundreds of red roses appeared as if from nowhere. He could see her face grow redder, but he couldn't tell if it was from embarrassment or anger. In his hope of bashfulness, he stood up to address her formally.
"Dearest Lilypad, Would you do me the honour of accompanying me to Hogsmeade this fine weekend?" James asked,
"Ok, James, I'll go to Hogsmeade with you" Lily agreed, just to placate the boy she hated so much.
Instead of embracing the boy she had just agreed to go out with, however, she retreated to her dormitory without another word.
After another two hours, James was starting to doubt that Lily was going to show up to their date. No matter how much he tried to make it seem as though he didn't care, James just couldn't let it show through. He felt humiliated, mortified, crushed. But, true to his spirit, he kept hoping that she would enter through the door, when finally he spotted her ruby red hair coming through the door. Instead of joining him though, she occupied an empty table with an obnoxious looking boy as though she were already on a date. James could not hold in his anger.
"What are you doing, Lily?" James demanded, stalking up to her table.
"What do you mean, Potter, I'm on a date, isn't that obvious?" The boy looked intimidated to say the least, and Lily stood in anger.
"You agreed to go on a date with me" James stated, feeling hollow inside.
"You can't be serious," Lily laughed out loud at James' foolishness.
"Can't you see what you're doing to me? I'm in love with you Lily." James confessed unwillingly.
"You're not in love with me, James, you're just after the chase. I can't stand you!"
"Yes I am, Lily, I'm in love with the way you'd rather study any day than go shopping, I'm in love with the fact that you're so fiery-tempered that you'd hex a Slytherin over giving them detention, I'm in love with how you're still friends with Snape after everything he's put you through. How can you not see that? I love you. " James declared, breathing heavily.
Lily had the decency to look ashamed that she had treated another human being in such a way, even if this was James Potter. Instead of coming up with a snappy reply however, she just stalked out of the pub without one glance towards her date or James.
This was an Indie Song Challenge on HPFF for Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs. If you listen to the song, it should make sense. Thoughts welcome. xx
