One-Shot: Sugar Cube Kiss

"Hey, Katniss!"

I look up from where I am petting the horse's mane to see a man clad in nothing but a fishnet saunter over to me.

"Hello, Finnick," I return flatly.

Finnick Odair, the Victor from District 4, flips something in his hands. "You want a sugar cube? They're supposed to be for the horses that have loads of time to eat, whereas... well, if we see something sweet, we'd better grab it." He looks me up and down.

I turn away from him. "No, thanks."

"You look positively terrifying in that get-up. What happened to all the pretty little girl dresses?"

"I outgrew them," I snap back.

"You certainly did," Finnick almost spits, wearing something between a smile and a sneer. "Now you could have made out like a bandit in the Capitol... jewels, money, anything you wanted."

"Well, I'm not into jewels and I have more money than I need. How did you spend all yours, Finnick?" I challenge.

He waves away my comment with his hand. "Oh, I haven't dealt in anything as common as money in years."

"Well, than how do they pay you for the pleasure of your company?" I fully face him.

I shouldn't have. Finnick draws very close to me. "With secrets," he hisses. He smiles as he clearly sees his proximity is making me uncomfortable. "What about, Girl on Fire? Any secrets worth my time?"

I decide to mess with his head a little bit. Psych him out before the Games. So I slide close to him, and as flirtatiously as I dare, capture his lips with mine. A simple kiss, a peck that lasts no more than a moment. To tease him.

"Maybe I'll tell you sometime."

Finnick grins almost in triumph, like he realizes something I don't, and sashays away, making sure to swivel his hips extra hard for my viewing pleasure. Peeta arrives a few moments later, and I am relieved to know he hasn't seen what just transpired.
