CHAPTER 01
Tuesday, August 21, 2012 + Liverpool, England
NINA MARTIN
I open the attic door quietly, smiling at Patricia, Alfie, Fabian, and Eddie as Amber and I walk into the attic. It's a little past midnight, and I'm super tired, but I immediately cheer up when I see my best friends sitting on a blanket in the middle of the attic floor, smiling back at me with huge grins on their faces and glints of mischief shining in their eyes. I don't know what I would do without them. "I'm sorry that we're a little late, guys. I couldn't get this one up." I point to Amber with a smirk on my face.
Amber lets out a fake huff as she sits down beside Patricia, leaving the seat between Fabian and Eddie open for me. "Well, I am so terribly sorry that a certain someone in this organization needs their beauty sleep."
I laugh quietly with everyone as I sit down between Fabian and Eddie. They both smile at me so I smile back. "What are we going to protect the world from this year, guys?"
Eddie shrugs, a grin making its way onto his face. "Whatever comes our way, I guess."
Patricia laughs. "That sounds about right."
Alfie rests his chin in his hand in a thoughtful way. "If it has anything at all to do with food, I'm 100% in."
Amber pushes Alfie lightly. "You're 100% in anyway, Alfie. You are most certainly not getting out of Sibuna. I don't care if you have to fast for weeks. You. Are. In."
Fabian chuckles. "Calm down, Amber. No one is going too fast for weeks."
Amber raises her eyebrows challengingly. "Alfie might if he messes with me."
Alfie raises his hands in surrender. "I'm in. I'm in. I am 100% in, no matter what. I promise. I cross my heart and hope to die. I will do anything. Just please don't take my food, Ambs."
Amber smiles satisfyingly and kisses Alfie on the cheek. "That's more like my boyfriend."
Eddie leans over and whispers in Alfie's ear. "You are completely whipped, bro."
I watch in amusement as Amber takes her slipper off and hits Eddie on the head with it. "I heard that, Edison Sweet."
Eddie just grins. "I missed you guys so much. After spending 3 months back in New York with Nina, I couldn't wait to come back. It was horrifying."
This time, Eddie gets slapped on the chest with my hand. "You are so mean."
"You're still my best friend and Chosen One," Eddie says before sticking his tongue out at me.
I shrug. "I make bad choices in life sometimes. Obviously, those are some of them."
Fabian laughs as he gets up. "Come on, guys. Let's head down to the antechamber. We need to see if Victor snooped around over the summer."
LINEBREAK
"This place is completely trashed!" Eddie exclaims as he steps into the antechamber first.
I run up to Eddie and push him out of the way, my eyes widening in shock when I see the antechamber. Books, papers, and knickknacks are scattered everywhere, empty bookshelves are lying on the floor, fragments of pictures, their frames, and glass cover the floor as well, and Frobisher's desk is absolutely destroyed. All of the drawers have been removed, including everything that was in them.
I sigh and run my hands through my hair. I look around at everyone's shocked faces. "Do you think Victor did this?"
Everyone shrugs except Fabian. He picks up what seems like the only book that isn't trashed and brings it over to us. He points to the book's spine. "A page has been torn out," he states matter-of-factly, "and, by the looks of the next page, it most likely had something to do with the elixir."
"He's still trying to make the elixir?" Patricia asks.
Amber shakes her head. "He needs to stop. It obviously isn't helping. He looks like he's at least in his 60's."
Alfie nods in agreement. "Can't he just rest one semester? All I wanted was one perfectly normal semester, but it looks like that's not happening anytime soon."
Eddie sits down on a pile of books in the floor. "We need to clean all of this up. We can't just leave it trashed like this."
"Can we start tomorrow?" Fabian asks. "I'm really tired."
I put my hand on Fabian's shoulder. "It's alright, Fabian. You can go to bed. I'll start cleaning."
"I'll help," Eddie says while getting up.
"Eddie and I will start the cleanup process, guys," I continue. "The rest of you can go to bed."
The others don't protest at all. Amber tells me goodnight as she walks out with Alfie, Patricia waves, and Fabian tells Eddie and I goodnight before following Patricia out.
Eddie waits until the sound of footsteps disappears before turning to me. "Why did you want to start this tonight?"
I look up at Eddie and think. I can tell him. He is my Osirian after all. "I've been having horrible nightmares a lot lately so, instead of sleeping, I try to occupy myself with something. If I occupy myself, I won't go to sleep, which means no nightmares for me."
Eddie's eyes widen in surprise as he turns around to look at me. "I've been having nightmares, too!"
"Are they about Senkhara, Victor, losing Fabian and the others, Frobisher, or really weird Egyptian murders?"
Eddie's widen even more. "They're about every single one of those things. Sometimes it's all together and other times it isn't. I haven't slept well in probably a month and a half."
I nod in agreement. "It has to be a Chosen One/Osirian thing. Right?"
"Of course. What else would it be?"
I laugh. "The weirdest coincidence that I've ever seen or heard of in my entire 17 years of life."
Eddie laughs, too. "I'll agree with that."
I start to laugh even more as I look around the antechamber. "We've been down here for almost 15 minutes, and we still haven't cleaned anything yet."
Eddie picks up a picture that isn't broken and hangs it back on the wall. "We cleaned."
I grin and pick up the book about the elixir. "Let's look at this."
Once Eddie and I squeeze into an armchair together, I open the book and set it on our laps. I examine the book's page gently. "This is old. Look at how the pages are frayed and yellow."
Eddie nods and flips through the book. "We better be careful. Frobisher might come back to get us if we ruin his book."
"That would be really creepy," I say with a grimace.
Eddie throws his hands up dramatically. "I'll protect you!"
I smirk at him. "I feel so safe."
Eddie crosses his arms over his chest like a baby. "You're so mean."
I turn in the armchair to look at Eddie. Then, I lean over and pinch his cheeks. The book falls to the floor. I ignore it and I pinch Eddie's cheeks harder. "You're a baby."
Eddie brings his hands up to pull my hands off of his cheeks. "Nina, stop and look at the book!"
I look at the book as Eddie picks it up and places it in our lap again. My eyes widen in shock when I see the page. At the top of the page, it says 'Chosen One and Osirian', then, in the middle it reads 'Place your hands here to see how your mystery starts'. Under that, there is a place cut out in the remaining pages big enough for Eddie and me to place our hands in. I look up at him. "Should we do it?"
Eddie shrugs. "I don't know, Nins."
I sigh. "I know that this is the epitome of stupid, but I'm really scared, Eddie."
Eddie squeezes my hand that won't go into the book. "I'll put my hand in it first. Okay?"
I nod and watch Eddie as he puts his hand in the hole in the book. I gasp when his hand fits perfectly. "How is that possible?"
Eddie looks genuinely scared. I've never seen him like that before. He's always kept a brave face, but this time is different. "I don't know," he whispers, shocked and scared. "Do it."
I slowly put my hand into the book, too. When I do, the room spins and we suddenly disappear.
LINEBREAK
Eddie and I stop spinning when we appear in the middle of the woods by Anubis, almost in the clearing. "What happened?" I ask him, petrified as I shake.
Eddie puts his arm around me comfortingly. "I don't know."
I take the book from Eddie. "Look! It says something different."
Eddie looks down and starts to read from the book. "'You are now in the woods by your house. Walk into the clearing to see what you will be solving.'"
I start to shake even more. "I'm so scared, Eddie."
Eddie turns me toward him and puts his hands on my shoulders. "Nina, no matter what happens, I will protect you. I promise. I will not let you get hurt."
I will myself not to cry as I nod. "Can you go first?"
Eddie nods. He grabs my hand as he starts to walk. "Everything will okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."
I smile fondly. Gran used to say that to me before she died. I miss her so much.
When Eddie and I enter the clearing, we don't see anything at first, but, as we walk closer to the center, a fire suddenly appears. After the fire appears, something else appears right by it.
"Eddie, look."
Eddie stops dead in his tracks when he sees the other thing that appeared. "Nina, go away. Now."
I walk forward. "Why?"
Eddie puts one hand over my eyes and one hand on the small of my back as he leads me away from the fire. "Stay right here. Please."
I shake my head defiantly. "No, Eddie. I want to see what it is."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Eddie puts his hands back on my eyes and back as he leads me back to the fire. "Are you ready?"
I nod. "Do it."
When Eddie gives me my sight back and I see what's on the ground, I almost pass out. The thing on the ground is the body of a girl around our age. Her clothes are tattered and covered in blood and her skin is scratched and bruised badly. I look up at her face and almost pass out again. She doesn't have a normal human head. Instead, she has the head of Anubis and 'Psycho' is carved into her forehead.
"Eddie, what is this?" I ask while trying not to pass out, cry, and throw up all at the same time.
Eddie opens his mouth to talk, but he can't because we start spinning again.

AUTHOR'S NOTE
SO THIS IS THE 1ST CHAPTER OF ANUBIS THE PSYCHO! I HOPE YOU ALL LIKED IT!
As you can see, this isn't going to be one of your average mysteries since murder is involved so I hope you like it, anyway. Please favorite and follow this fanfiction and my account, review, tell your friends, and PM me if you have any questions or comments/concerns or anything.
By the way, I would've posted this last night, but I fell asleep while I was writing it so that's why it's delayed a little. Also, this will probably be Neddie like all of my other stories. I'm not sure yet, though, so that could change.
Anyway, thank you so much for reading! I'll talk to you all next time! I love you! :)
