Fake Mountain – East Side

The pair had been walking the eastern slopes of Fake Mountain for an hour or two now, neither finding conversation, nor bothering to make conversation. The silence was fine with both women, and both were comforted by it. That said, something had been bothering Esdeath for some time.

"Kurome?"

"Yes," came the monotone reply.

"Why do you hate your sister so much?" Esdeath replied.

"She betrayed the Empire, is that not enough?" Esdeath was silent for a while, giving Kurome the response she had been dreading. "She left me there, that's my problem with her. She left me. She left me a note. She didn't… didn't… even look me in the eye, as she took everything from me."

"So you will kill her merely because she left you? That seems a bit dramatic. Your parents sold you, if I remember correctly, have you not extracted your revenge on them?"

Kurome gritted her teeth momentarily before popping a cookie into her mouth, allowing the sweetness of the red filling to assure her before she swallowed.

Kurome allowed the memories of her mother tucking her into bed, her father's low laugh whenever either sister jumped on his back out of nowhere. Those were the happy times, before he came. Akame and Kurome were huddled in a room when their father was killed, and their mother forced upon. Their stepfather was the ones who sold them, and neither sister ever bothered correcting their comrades of that fact.

Kurome hesitated once more allowing another cookie into her mouth before walking away from Esdeath, not bothering to answer her commander's question. Kurome thought of how rotten the Empire had become, and while she understand and would have liked to join Night Raid, she never had the opportunity. Maybe things will get better, she thought, maybe one day.

Kurome felt the poisoned sword pierce her stomach, the poison flowing through her body. The rain splattered onto her arms, her hair, and her clothes, soaking her. She felt the tears from her sister's eyes, before closing her own, and finally giving into her death. Her last thoughts of her sister and Wave, and the big happy family she wished she could have had with her sister.

Recently, I've been watching Akame ga Kill again, and I've always wondered if there both more to the Akame/Kurome background and also what happened with Esdeath, here's my take on what happened. Thoughts, comments, opinions?
