Ok, Ok first off I want to say: I am so, so, so sorry for not updating Percy Jackson: The Hogwarts Quest. I'm doing my GCSE's at the moment and they are extremely stressful and to be honest I lost inspiration for that story. No worries though because I will be leaving a note about Percy Jackson: The Hogwarts Quest at the end of this piece.
This is set before The Staff of Serapis, The Son of Sobek and The Crown of Ptolemy.
Apologies for any cannon issues here, I haven't read either series in a few months and could not have a copies on hand when writing this. Most of the following is based on my knowledge of the characters, my memories of the books and both wiki's.
Disclaimer: I do not own any characters in the following story as they all belong to Rick Riordan.
Ok first of all; since when were there staff wielding magicians in Brooklyn?! And no I'm not talking the drunk 'pull a coin out of your ear' kind you find hanging around in the back alleys of Manhattan. Nope, I'm talking the Egyptian fire loving kind. Even better though, right?
So I should probably introduce myself first, huh? Alright then, my name is Thalia and I'm (unfortunately) the half-blood daughter of Zeus and the Lieutenant of the Goddess of the Hunt Artemis. This is how one of the strangest days (and there have been many, let me assure you) in my somewhat immortal life started.
"…Th..ia"
"Thalia.."
"Thalia!"
I sighed irritably as I awoke from my unusually pleasant non-nightmare filled slumber. I didn't get these kind of sleeps often so I would have preferred to sleep in until 1 but, hey, not my luck.
"What the heck do you want Phoebe?" I muttered as I brought my arms up and over my head in a lazy stretch. The joints in my arms and back made little 'pop' noises as a result of sleeping on the ground for the fifth time this week. I unconsciously make a satisfied noise before turning to see the amused face of Phoebe.
"Just to see if you're awake," she chirps brightly, amusement shining in her eyes as she quickly scampers out of my tent.
I made a face at her retreating form and quickly began my morning routine. The silver leather straps of my uniform are more familiar to me now so it did not take long to prepare myself. I placed the metal circlet on my head before stepping out into the crisp morning air.
The silver silk material of the tents shone vividly in the morning light that filtered through the leafy canopy we were currently camping below. The snowy wolves that guarded our camp during the night were beginning to slink away to who knows where. The occasional hunter's falcon would fly overhead, dipping to swerve in-between girls going about doing their chores
I shot a mock offended look at Phoebe as I made my way across the leafy ground towards the breakfast area. I took my seat on a wood log and grabbed the nearest food.
I was greeted with a number of enthusiastic, "Heys" and "Hiyas". How they could be this energetic in the morning was beyond me.
"Hey girls, have any of you seen Lady Artemis this morning?" I asked stifling a yawn.
The girls murmured to each other before one around the age of 12 chirped, "Nope, she should be out soon to address us soon though, right?"
Phoebe gave the girl, an obvious new addition, a nod before turning around.
"Speak of the devil," she said, elbowing me in the arm.
Lady Artemis stepped out of the brush opposite us, two hunting wolves by her side. She appeared as a girl around 14 years of age with long auburn hair to her waist and grey eyes that shone like the moon she embodied. She quickly made her way other to us and we stood as she approached.
"My hunters, gather for a moment," she called out, her voice ringing with urgency. I made my way over to her side; as her lieutenant she often expected this of me, for some reason. Almost instantaneously the other Hunters of Artemis emerged from their tents and jogged over. "Today girls, we shall hunt a large horde of wild dracaena that have been terrorising the mortals of Mississippi, I have just gotten wind that they are traveling west to meet up with an even larger group."
I raised an eyebrow at this, after all the 'Battle of the Wolf House' (as the other hunters had dubbed it) had only been a few weeks or so ago.
"We will be leaving immediately so please begin to pack up your tents and personal belongings. I expect you back here in half an hour."
The hunters began to dissolve, each going about their packing. I moved to join them but halted at a hand on my shoulder.
"Not you, lieutenant," Artemis said, pulling me over to the side.
"My lady." I smile politely while bowing my head in a sign of respect to the goddess. "What is it?"
"Thalia, I have a….special job for you," she said hesitantly, "There have been reports of a Fury, of all things, in Brooklyn and I need you take it out, so to speak."
A Fury? I frown, "But, my Lady, why on earth would there be a Kindly One in Brooklyn, and why would you send me, the child of Zeus after it?"
Something wasn't adding up here and Artemis fidgeted under my scrutinising gaze.
"I cannot explain now, lieutenant, but know that it is not under Hades jurisdiction and is currently causing quite a few problems. You should also know that you may be ah, what's the word… uncomfortable? with what you find out."
I opened my mouth to reply but stopped as Artemis tilted her head, a confused expression stretched over her eternal features.
She frowned but then turned back to me, "You may also be getting an ally, apparently."
"This is not making any sense, my Lady."
"I know and for that I apologise but there is no time, lieutenant, you must leave immediately. I will explain all when you return. Do you wish for any hunters to accompany you?"
Silently swallowing down my nerves, I shook my head, "With all due respect my lady, I think I can handle a Kindly One. And if I get in to over my head, I'll make sure to call in reinforcements from camp. I imagine you'll need the hunters to take care of all those dracaena."
Artemis smiled (although it looked more like a grimace) and nodded in agreement, "You should start your preparations immediately, I'll see to it someone packs your belongings for you," and with that she disappeared into the line of trees encircling the camp.
Barely a few minutes later I had been forced into the Grey Sister's taxi and was speeding towards the streets of Brooklyn. Sometimes I really do wonder how thick The Mist must be to cover their atrocious speeding, they must have, like, hundreds of speeding tickets. The cab ride wasn't exactly pleasant to say the least and took a few hours. I hadn't been to Brooklyn before and as soon as I got within the limits it felt strange, like a warning bell was going off deep inside me, as if I wasn't supposed to be here, like I had just stepped into No Man's Land.
The cab skidded next to the sidewalk and I was forcefully chucked out onto the street. All that was left of my impromptu hitch hike was the trail of dust spiralling upwards in the busy road. It was unusual, I thought, since the sisters usually demanded expensive payment for such a long journey.
"Crazy old ladies," I muttered to myself before turning to examine the streets of Brooklyn. The houses in the suburbs looked pretty normal, different to the apartment blocks common in Manhattan but not necessarily unfamiliar. The occasional oddity caught my eye though, such as scuff marks on the outside of buildings and the distinctive stench of the underworld. How I know the smell of the underworld I'm sure some are asking? Well that would be another story for another day. To the mortal eye it could have appeared normal but to my trained gaze, I don't think so.
I trudged through the streets of Brooklyn looking out for anything unusual. The place didn't appear that bad but the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and any sudden movement in my line of sight made me flinch. Yep, I definitely shouldn't be here. Time seem to pass quickly and I still saw nothing, nilch, nada. I usually would have left by now if I had been on my own but Artemis had given me my orders (no matter how strange of orders they were) and if it really was a Fury terrorising the mortals, then it needed to be taken out quickly. My rather unusual journey reminded me of the days travelling with Luke and Annabeth, wandering aimlessly around an unfamiliar city, adults giving us scathing looks, only surviving due to our wits and detemination. Ah those were the good old days.
It took a few hours of painstaking searching before I finally found myself outside of what I presumed was Prospect Park. 'May as well', I thought to myself and I walked through the grove of trees. In a way it was a shame I was looking for a crazy guardian of the dead because the park really was beautiful. Its lush green grass glittered with dew and tall trees were decorated with spring leaves of green and orange hues. The sky was bright and there were no clouds to be seen.
My father must be in a good mood for once.
I walked through the open space, unaware of where my feet were taking me. I spent most of my time there gazing at the surrounding wildlife, knowing that my close friend Grover would love to be here. It was hard to tear my eyes away but I at least attempted to keep my eyes peeled for the winged death machine but I kept feeling that odd chill down my spine intensifying with every step I took. I snapped out of my dream-like trance. My internal warning bell was screaming now and my hand automatically hovered above my concealed bow. I slowly turned around only to see nothing.
Or so I thought as the space I had previously been staring at suddenly began to flicker like an old television screen. Black mist hung in the air then fizzled out, coming back then disappearing in a strange dance before, finally, the figure of a girl was stood in its place.
A girl about my age, (although I've supposedly stopped ageing so about 15-16 I suppose?) stood in the wake of the dark cloud, she wore what looked like… cotton pyjamas? Her amber eyes bored straight into my electric blue ones. I had never thought amber to be a cold colour until this moment. Her dark hair reached her shoulders and swayed in the gentle wind. In her hand she tightly gripped a long tiger-headed staff like one I would imagine Gandalf holding.
She frowned at me which then turned into a scowl of confusion. I guessed it was her own type of warning bell going off inside her brain, like mine had earlier. A moment passed and then she held out her staff, "Who are you and what are you doing here?" she snapped, like I had stepped on her puppy or something.
I raised an eyebrow and kept my grip firm on my bow, "Uh, firstly why should I tell you and secondly, why are you pointing a stick at me?"
Her glare intensified. "You're obviously not a mortal but I haven't seen you in any of the Nomes," she stated, as if I'd know what the heck this girl was going on about.
"What are you going on about?" I asked perplexed. That apparently wasn't the right thing to say. The tip of the girl's staff ignited in small flames. That chill down my spine now felt like it was tap-dancing up to my neck. My internal alarm system was wailing like a fire truck.
My hand tightened on my bow.
"Listen I don't know who or what you are and frankly I don't have time to care but I have something I need to do, so stay out of my way," the girl said and she swept past me and marched on. The air seemed to suddenly drop in degrees as she walked away, causing me to shiver slightly at the temperaure drop. Okay then, what was her problem...
Who or what was that girl? A loner demigod daughter of Hecate perhaps? A witch? I honestly had no idea at the time.
I ignored the strange person before continuing my search. It was odd, the Fury should have smelled me coming a mile ago and come to challenge me. What was going on with this one? First, it ignores Hades and then it won't come running to my location? I kept walking and only a few minutes had passed before I heard the shriek and wails of the winged creature. Finally, I thought to myself, some actions, before sprinting full speed towards the chaos.
The Kindly One was crouched on a branch nearby, its wrinkly hag-like skin was paler then normal and its wings beat leisurely as it watched the chaos around it. The monsters narrowed eyes roamed the clearing, clearly looking for something. It gnashed its teeth when it saw me but otherwise it held back, waiting and calculating my next movements.
"Daughter of Zeus," the creature warbled in frustration, "Leave me be, young one, for I have no business with you."
I had opened my mouth in reply when the bizarre girl from before decided to make her grand entrance onto the scene. She exploded out on the opposite side of the clearing, making the Fury take flight in surprise. She seemed stunned for a minute. Her eyes widened in shock and flickered with, what I interpreted as fear before steeling.
The Kindly One rose slowly in the air, its wings pounding furiously to keep it airborne. The creature panted slightly and judging from the scorch marks on its willowy skin, it was injured.
The girl raised her 'Dumbledore staff' and yelled some foreign words that I couldn't recognise, but I was already running.
"Wait!" I yelled as the girls voice began to rise in volume until she was shouting. The long staff in her hand seemed to glow a brilliant white before transforming into a large amber tiger. I stopped running, stunned. The beast snarled, its large yellow fangs dripping in anticipation. It turned its head towards me, snarled and then looked back at its original target.
The predator let loose a vicious snarl and launched itself forward, deadly claws outstretched. The Fury shrieked in anger but the tigers claws shattered on collision with the Kindly Ones leathery skin. I sprinted forward because I certainty didn't want this random girl or her apparent pet tiger, to get involved.
The Fury snarled in agitation, "Enough, magician-" The Kindly One suddenly lurched forward before gaining its altitude back. The now furious big cat growled and then vanished in a puff of smoke.
The 'magicians' eyes widened in astonishment but before I could do anything, the girl had pulled out a long white stick that looked a bit like a boomerang. What was she going to do? Go all Australian on the monster? The girl then pulled out some rope and yelled yet again.
She shrieked in a language I didn't understand and what I thought was a hieroglyphic burned in the air, sending waves off heat spiralling towards the monster and also towards me. The rope spun through the air as if in slow motion and the Kindly One fell to the ground, restrained by the material.
I slowed to walk as I headed towards the fallen creature, uncertain on what to do next. The girl began to run over but I drew an arrow and aimed it at her, stopping magician girl in her tracks.
"Listen," I said, keeping the bow string taunt, "I don't know who you are or what you are, but you can obviously see through the Mist and are here for a reason, so we need to find out why the…. Fury is here."
I lowered my bow to my side and raised my hand tentatively, "Truce?"
The magician considered my hand for a moment and then slowly reached forward to grasp it in her own.
"Truce."
I smiled and turned back to the entangled monster. The girl came to stand next to me, her boomerang raised.
The Kindly One glared at me with its dead eyes, its wings were bound to its sides and its open wounds dripped with ichor.
"Release me, Daughter of Zeus, Eye of Ra, I have no business with either of you!" The creature growled, struggling against the bonds. "Release me!"
I frowned, "What's an 'Eye of Ra'?" I said turning back to the girl, momently distractedly
The girl narrowed her eyes at me, "That would be me, I am the host of the Sun God Ra. My name is Zia Rashid and I am very interested in knowing what a 'Daughter of Zeus' and whatever this thing-," she gestured to the fallen Fury, "-is."
The monster struggled and shrieked in the background but I hardly noticed. All of my attention was now focused on this stranger in front of me. "Ra? Host? Sun god? What are you talking about?"
Zia looked vaguely confused, "Well that clears the possibility that you're in one of the Nomes..." she muttered to herself.
"Ok, does anything you say make sense?"
"Who are you?" she asked, her amber eyes burning fiercely. She looked like she was going to go all 'You shall not pass1' on me with her wizard staff.
I straightened, "I'm Thalia, Daughter of the King of the Gods, Zeus and Lieutenant to Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt."
Zia frowned, "Zeus? That sounds vaguely familiar but he's definitely not Egyptian."
It was like someone had called cut on a movie set. The nature around me seemed to still for a moment, as if holding its breath in anticipation. The pleaseant noises of the wildlife in the park had stopped mid squawk. Even the wind had frozen in it's place, as if even the wind gods were anxious.
"Egyptian? Of course he isn't Egyptian, he's Greek!"
Come on what with all this nonsense about Egypt?
"Greek? But-"
It was then that the Fury decided it had had enough of our little chit-chat. The ropes keeping the beast restrained began to crackle and hiss, dark blue electricity curled its way along the material, snapping the individual fibres of rope.
"Foolish godlings!" the Kindly One shrieked after getting free of its bonds, "As much as I would like to destroy both of you, as the spirit of vengeance, I have a task to fulfil!"
"Wait," I yelled before the beast could fly away, "What do you mean? What job must you do?"
The Fury bared its fangs, "It does not concern you, Lieutenant, however your Egyptian friend may perhaps know of the name Prince Khaemwaset."
The effect was instant, Zia froze, her eyes widening in unconcealed surprise. Her hands curled into fists and her frame was tense. "Setne," she growled.
"Indeed, child, he has escaped imprisonment for too long, it is my task as 'The Avenger' to send him back to his cell in the underworld."
My head was swimming with all of this new information, my silence apparently making Zia speak up, "Where is he?"
"Quiet, youngling," the Kindly One growled, "Khaemwaset has been experimenting with Greek and Egyptian magic, I have been risen to find him and avenge all those he has wronged."
"Tisiphone," I realised, "Tisiphone, 'The Avenger'"
Tisiphone bared her fangs, "Yes child."
I frown, "But he's an Egyptian spirit right? So why have you, a Greek deity, got to hunt him down?"
"It matters not what mythology I am from, child, he messes with both our worlds. I am the primordial spirit of vengeance, you've no idea how many people wish ill upon his head."
I shook my head in confusion, "Okay okay so I presume the reason we-" I gesture towards Zia and I, "-were sent here together, is to help you."
"I need no assistance!"
Zia gripped her boomerang, "It is not up for discussion," she growled.
Tisiphone hissed before dipping her head in resignation, "...Very well, the forces of nature are being ripped apart by one man, I may as well accept the help of two small godlings."
Tisiphone rose slowly in the air, ichor still dripping from open wounds on her pale leathery skin. The creature dragged itself through the air northwards out of the city, a clear invitation to follow it. The Fury's wounds dripped with ichor, leaving a trail of golden blood.
I checked the straps on my quiver before jogging off after the beast, magician girl keeping pace.
"So…Egyptian huh?"
"Yes and you are Grecian?"
"Greek demigod, yeah" I said before asking the question at the forefront of my mind, "So what's the big deal about this Setne guy anyway?"
Zia bristled, "The son of Ramses the Great, he's officially dead but keeps returning to sow chaos in the mortal world."
"And you seem to have a personal vendetta against this guy because…"
"He almost killed my friends and stole the Book of Thoth, an ancient book containing various powerful spells and is thought to contain the knowledge of the universe in its pages."
"Huh, so bad news?"
"To put it simply."
We spent most of our jog talking about our various adventures. She described how she became the, 'Eye of Ra' and how she and her friends, Carter and Sadie had had various adventures concerning their own group of gods. My mind boggled with all this information. It had never occurred to me before that there could be another pantheon of gods out there, like our very own but also vastly different.
In turn, I described my own adventures, my travels with Luke and Annabeth, turning into a tree and becoming a Hunter of Artemis. Percy was a recurrent named mentioned as I told my story to this girl I barely knew. I took time in explaining The Battle for Manhattan and the most recent, 'Battle of the Wolf House'. I also took the time to explain the Roman side of mythology which Zia seemed to take in her stride.
It was when I felt the ichor drip down my face that made me look up. Tisiphone had halted in the air, and neither Zia nor I had noticed as we talked. Tisiphone moved forward again before turning to us, "The fool is close, begin to prepare yourself."
Tisiphone landed gracefully and seemed to begin to tend her wounds from what I assumed was her previous encounter with Setne.
I had not noticed due to Zia and I immersing ourselves in conversation but we had jogged the length of Prospect Park and ended up a few hundred metres away from the Brooklyn Museum. It was a long and elegant white building, with high walls and stone white columns; like a mash up of the Pantheon and the White House. Even from here I had to admit it was a beautiful building and I hardly cared less about boring buildings. What Annabeth would give to spend a day inside, I wouldn't want to know.
Zia was checking through her supplies when she seemed to come to a realisation, "Of course!" Magician girl exclaimed, looking like she was about to face-palm herself.
"What?"
Zia gave me a funny look, " It has only just occurred to me but the museum has a large collection of Egyptian artefacts, it's possible something here is what Setne is after!"
"Good deduction, young one," the voice of Tisiphone seemed to echo from behind us. We turned in unison to see a wrinkly old woman (around 80) with a hideous velvet dress draped on her bony frame behind us. Around her neck was a metal pendant with an engraving of the three Furies faces. Lovely.
"Is that you, Kindly One?"
The 'woman' sneered at me before hitting me over the head with her tartan purse.
Zia snickered slightly before grasping back her composure, "Definitely Tisiphone."
I rubbed the back of my head and adjusted my Lieutenant circlet before sighing, "Let's just get this over with, shall we?"
Tisiphone bared her abnormally large human fangs, "Gladly."
Together in unison, we marched up towards the front doors. I imagined we looked quite odd, me in my silver leather, my companion in her cotton pyjamas, with our grandmother in an awful shade of green velvet. No wonder people seemed to steer out of our way, although that might have been Tisiphone's manipulation of the Mist.
We got past security quite quickly as the guards seemed to want to be done with us quite quickly. One security guard went to talk to his friend about directions to the Egyptian exhibit and promised to be right back in a moment. He almost tripped over his own feet from trying to get away so quickly.
"Must be your smell," I muttered towards Tisiphone under my breath. Unfortunately for me, the Fury had razor sharp ears and spun around, hitting me once again with her tartan purse. Zia snickered next to me and I elbowed her discreetly, causing the amber eyed girl to glare at me and elbow me back harder this time.
"That way ma'am," the security guard had returned and was addressing Tisiphone while pointing down the nearest corridor, "just take the second right, and please, keep your grandchildren under control."
I turned to exchange a look with Zia but kept my mouth shut as Tisiphone hurriedly thanked the guard and hurried the three of us down the corridor.
"Grandchildren," she muttered under her breath, "what utter nonsense."
According to the map that Zia had swiped from who knows where, The Egyptian exhibit was spread out between a few rooms and since splitting up seemed like a bad idea, we decided for once to not do that. The first room had vibrant red walls that made my eyes hurt and was dotted with glass cubes of cat busts and sculptures.
"Ancient Egyptians were weird…" I muttered to myself.
Zia sent a glare my way and I did my best to look sorry. 'Like you weren't thinking it'. I felt like saying.
The next room wasn't as bad, it was black this time, with fluorescent lights casting eerie shadows on the glass displays. Definitely more my style. The cases were full of random pottery pieces and other murals and artwork.
Zia immediately halted as soon as we got to the second room, "Have you noticed that we're the only ones here?"
I frowned, now thinking about it, Zia was right, we hadn't seen another person anywhere near the Egyptian part of the museum.
"Must be some kind of spell, repelling the non-magical and mortals" Zia whispered to us as she braced herself, grabbing the boomerang, which I had long suspected was some kind of wand.
I did the same, enlarging my spear and tapping my bracelet. Aegis sprang to life, the terrifying face of Medusa ready to petrify all in its path.
Tisiphone, on the other hand, simply staggered along the main walkway, like the beast had no care in the world about what was happening. Exchanging a look with Zia, we walked in unison to stand on either side of the disguised spirit of vengeance, looking for once like a unit.
"Show yourself, Khaemwaset" Tisiphone spoke calmly, her voice echoed through the dimly lit room.
Delighted laughter echoed through the confined space, making the florescent lights flicker on and off eerily. The shadows on the walls seemed to grow longer and darker, shifting into terrifying shapes like they had a life of their own. The atmosphere in the room had changed completely, the light atmosphere of our jokes and curiosity replaced with one of foreboding.
"Very good," a snarky voice replied, chuckling slightly. The darkness in the room began to intensify and in turn, so did the laughter. "Hmmm what have we here, a Greek Fury (Hello again, you), Zia Rashid (always great to see you dear) and… I'm afraid I haven't seen you before, kid."
The voice was suddenly behind me and I swung my spear in a large arch only to hear the 'swish' of my weapon passing through empty air.
"Well then girl, introduce yourself," Setne called quietly from the opposite side of the room. My hair seemed to stand on edge, my internal warning belt that had been completely silent since early had began to make itself known. It rang in my ears and it took all of my focus to pay attention to what was happening.
"Come out traitor!" growled Zia, her wand sparking in her hand. I wondered what we must have looked like to Setne. Probably the weirdest trio he'd ever seen.
"Tempting," Setne replied, "But I really would like to know who your friend is."
I sighed, "The name is Thalia, Daughter of Zeus." I raised my shield, suddenly feeling self-conscious.
"Oh, a Greek demigod," Setne snickered before appearing about a metre in front of our group. The former prince was slim with a permanent sneer on his face. His dark hair was flicked upward in a quiff of a man much younger than he. "How boring." He had a beak-ish nose and heavy lidded eyes. He wore a gold dress shirt with puffy sleeves and white bell bottom jeans. Basically, he looked a lot like Elvis Presley. Well, if 'The King' was a crazy magic wielding nutter.
"Why are you here Setne?" Zia growled taking a step forward, I placed a hand on her shoulder to stop her lunging at the ghost in front of us.
"Is it not obvious, kid? Surely you of all people know what is stored here?" Setne's voice was mocking, like he was talking to a three year old.
Tisiphone snarled, which looked odd on her hag-like human face. Setne smirked, "Well you've found me again, Avenger, now what?"
"Now I drag you back to your underworld and issue the punishment you so rightfully deserve," Tisiphone snarled as she began to transform. Her back arched and her arms elongated as her teeth grew longer and larger until a full-fledged Kindly One hovered in the air. The tartan purse and velvet dress lay limp and torn on the floor.
"Hmm, how about...no," Setne smirked, before disappearing in a small puff of white smoke.
"Get to the next room!" Zia ordered sprinting past me towards the doorway.
I ran after her, Tisiphone soaring overhead. "What is he after?" I yelled as I skidded to a stop next to her.
"Remember how I said about Setne having the Book of Thoth? Well according to legend, there is one missing page, it's rumoured to be hidden here. We didn't think it existed but since Setne's here it's the only thing he could be after!"
Tisiphone growled, "Oh it exists, godling. The page on how to become a god was hidden long ago in case a mortal got their hands on it."
"Well so much for that!" I hissed as I quickly removed my spear and Aegis before lacing an arrow on my bow. I then stepped through the doorway.
Setne was crouched next to a small display case, his glowing hand on the glass. His slicked up hair was impervious to the conditions he had created around him. The air around him pulsed with an electric energy and a wind had suddenly picked up and was swirling violently around the room.
Tisiphone shot forward like a bullet, but before she could tackle the former prince, a silvery shield shimmered in the air, the Fury slamming into it full force. With a small cry Tisiphone fell to the ground, ichor dripping from her re-opened wounds.
Releasing an arrow, I ran other to the Kindly One while Zia fired various spells at the shield, trying to shatter the stupid thing. Fire ranged from her wand, roaring around the shield and trying to climb its sides. Small cracks formed along the silver sides of the barrier and Zia 'Yesed' in relief.
"You okay?" I asked the spirit of vengeance as I sidestepped closer. Another arrow was sent the disgraced princes way but the stupid thing simply bounced off his shield. I wasn't totally sure if an underworld creature could eat ambrosia so I didn't try to offer her some.
"Fine, young one," Tisiphone hissed, gradually getting to her feet and taking off once more.
I rolled my eyes before turning to the battle. The shield had dispersed and I turned just as Setne vanished a piece of... was that papyrus? into thin air. I saw Zia narrow her eyes in rage and cast another kind of fire spell roaring towards the traitor prince. Setne quickly jumped out of the way, swiftly moving his way towards the doorway.
Zia and I worked side by side. She shot fire spells and I had pulled out my spear to use it as a lightning rod, causing a jagged hole to be blasted into the roof. Lightning and fire worked in harmony. Setne barely had enough time to deflect our attacks let alone Tisiphone's as the fury swooped down every two second to land a hit on the disgraced magician. Setne lurched forward, his hand gripping his shoulder as blood the colour of bronze dripped from his fresh wound.
Tisiphone then cracked her whip...where she got that from, I've no clue. Setne raised a shield to deflect it and during that opening I withdrew my spear and laced an arrow, aiming. The arrow struck Setne right in the chest, forcing him backwards where Zia attempted to do the same rope spell she did on Tisiphone earlier. Setne rose a shield at the last moment. Frowning, he sent a large pulse of energy towards the Fury. Tisiphone's eyes widened before it impacted right in her chest, resulting in a blinding flash of light.
Zia and I ducked, covering our eyes while Setne laughed, "Finally!"
Gold dust was splatted on the floor and hung in the air, all that remained of our Fury ally. A weird combination of anger and sadness raged through my head, even though I knew she would just be reborn back in the underworld. Adrenaline pulsed through my blood, causing me to jump back into the fight as Zia stared in shock.
"Tisiphone!" Zia gasped.
Seeing Zia's shock as an opening, Setne released another pulse of energy, the very same kind that had taken out Tisiphone at her back. Dropping my bow and arrows I quickly tapped my bracelet, Aegis springing to life as I jumped in front of Zias exposed back. The force of the spell knocked both of us backwards and I could smell something awfully similar to burning metal.
Realising Aegis must be damaged, I quickly reverted it back to bracelet form and ran to grab my bow while Zia covered me with her range of spells. I then let loose a flurry of arrows towards Setne, hoping that at least one would connect with his idiotic disco face. Zia growled and released a wall of fire spells, yelling Egyptian words which then caused hieroglyphics to explode in the air like crazy.
But even the two of us combined wasn't enough to stop the disgraced prince.
"Well this has been fun, kids but I really got to go and put this page to good use," Setne smirked before letting out another pulse of energy that knocked Zia and I off our feet.
As I quickly recovered my wits and got to my feet, I realised, Setne was gone.
"So what now?" Zia asked as we sat on a bench in Prospect Park. A slightly sombre mood had settled over us, seeing as Setne had gotten away with the pages that could transform him into some kind of god.
"I guess I go back to the Hunters, tell Artemis what happened," I replied, staring at the green grass beneath my hunting boots as I kicked a stone backwards and forwards.
"And I guess I'll go tell the rest of my friends that Setne now has the power to become a god," Zia sounded resigned, an unusual tone for the girl I had begun to consider a friend.
"Time to say farewell then," Zia sighed, holding her hand out to me.
"Friends?" I ask as I shook her hand.
"Friends," she agreed, a small smile making its way across her face.
"Hold up," I say to her as she took a step backwards. I rummage through my hunters pack before finding what I was looking for. "Take this,"
Zia took the card in my hand and read it over, "The Hunters of Artemis? Why would I want this?"
"If you ever need to contact me, just hold the card and say my name, it should let me track your location and it will allow me to do the same if I ever need to contact you." I smiled, "Keep it with you at all times."
Zia nodded a small smile coming over her face., "Thank you, Thalia."
I returned the smile and as Zia began to turn around, I had another idea, "Wait!"
"Yes?" she asked in confusion.
"How about we go grab a hot dog? My treat."
Zia grinned, "An outing with a friend? Sounds great."
Ok so as I have mentioned before, this idea has been in my head for a while now. However I haven't read the Kane Chronicles and PJO in a little while so I apologise if any characters were OOC. Also about Setne, I can't remember if at the end of the last book if he is still restrained by those ribbons, so for the sake of this story, he found a way to get out of them. Also the whole 'lost page thing' was entirely made up, so, yeah. Sorry if there is any mistakes when it comes to cannon here.
About Percy Jackson: The Hogwarts Quest, I've been thinking about doing a re-write of that. I like to think my writing has improved since that story was first published and to be honest, I'd like to change it up a bit, the switching POV's annoy me and I can already see some plot holes developing.
I'm asking you, if you've got this far, to write in a review of this story whether you think I should rewrite Percy Jackson: The Hogwarts Quest. It would be a better quality story with better writing and grammar if rewritten but I can understand if you do not want me to do so. So yeah, just type YES or NO at the end of your review for this story to tell me your opinions.
