My first night sleeping in my new room was terrible, all through the night all i could hear was the rustling of the bushes and the constant whooshing of the wind outside my window. Eventually it was around 2 in the morning when I was able to fall asleep. That morning I woke up to yet another day of sunshine and it was a tad bit warmer than yesterdays cold weather. Without even remembering yesterdays events I carried through the morning just as I would, showering, eating breakfast and helping my parents with the rest of the unpacking. Even of just an hour and a half of unpacking is so draining that's when my Dad suggested we go out for lunch at small diner that we passed coming through yesterday. Grabbing a jacket we all head out to the car and start towards the café.

"I didn't know how they truly are in touch with their tribe, there is everything native around the one town" Dad exclaims as we pull into a parking spot beside the diner.

"I was thinking the same thing as I walked through here yesterday" I reply.

Getting out of the car the air had seemed to get a little chilly, I wrap my arms around my body and hug myself tight to keep warm. Dad opened the door for us and as we walked in the café held warmth and the smell of coffee and pastries made my mouth water. As we find a table to sit at, we pick one towards the back against a large window. Picking up the menu, my eyes scanning through the various options I opt for a hot chocolate and hot pancakes. I know that we are out here for lunch but why not have pancakes in weather like this. As we've decided what we wanted a waitress comes over with a note pad and pen in her hand.

"Hello I'm Debra and I'll be your waitress for today, has everyone decided on what they want?" she asks.

Debra was an old lady with wrinkly tan skin, black hair that was wound tightly into a bun on top of her head and a smile of gold.

Dad was the first one to speak "Yes, my wife will have a coffee with 1 sugar and a salad sandwich, for my daughter she'll have a hot chocolate and pancakes and from me I will just have a coffee and the beef burger with fries.

Debra finishes writing everything down and smiles "This will not take long at all" she was about to leave but stopped and looked at us again. "You people are new around here aren't you?"

"Yeah we are, just moved here yesterday" Mum explains.

"Is that an Australian accent I hear" she says raising an eyebrow.

Mum laughs "Yes, we came from Australia, thought this place would be a great change". Mum looks at Dad and places her hand on his "We've always loved this place but wanted to wait for our daughter - to finish her 2nd of last year of high school.

"That's wonderful the reservation welcomes you" she smiles with her semi-white teeth, she looks at me before speaking "Will you be attending the Quileute High School?"

"uh.. I don't kno-" I was about to finish my sentence before Dad interrupted me "We have an appointment with the principal today to see if she is welcome to attend that school as we know it is only for the Quileute people we are hoping they will give her a chance as that's the only high school around the area"

"Well all the luck with the school and I'm hoping everything will work out for you's" and with that she left to go into the kitchen.

As the convocation whirled around my head with the school, I didn't know that all the students there would only be Quileute's. I look at both my parents, they were so happy to be here it would only be fair to give it a chance. As 15 minutes past Debra came out with our order and I didn't know what happiness was until I got my food. She sets it down and we say our thank you's before digging in.

After that meal I could say we were stuffed to the brim and even moving the slightest hurt. But I will admit the food here is the best I've ever had. Dad leaves the money on the table and with a tip for Debra before leaving to go back to the car, before leaving I give a quick way to Debra. Practically running back to the car to escape the cold I put my seatbelt on and a shiver runs down my spine.

Soon after my parents are in the car too and we are off to our next destination which would be the Quileute high school.

"Now Kalei I know this wasn't what you were expecting to go to a school like this but we still want you close since any other school are out of range where we work" Mum explains turning to look at me smiling.

I smile and nod. The drive to the high school was quiet but it was a comfort quiet. It took less than 10 minutes to arrive to the school, Dad parks in the parking lot and we all climb out. Walking into the school butterflies filled my stomach, i couldn't wait for this to be over. The school was totally different from the ones in Australia, the hallways were long with metal lockers against the wall continuing down the hallway.

"This school is huge" I say to myself.

We make it to the office without having trouble finding it, that would be a good thing since I wouldn't get lost on my first day. My parents stop at the front desk and wait for an old lady to finish speaking on the phone. A few seconds past and she puts the phone down and starts to speak to my parents.

"Sorry about that how can i help you?"

"We're here to see the principal we have an appointment with our daughter" Dad explains.

"Name?" she asks.

"Kalei Mula"

"Oh yes" she nods going through a book of names "he has been waiting for you, just follow me I'll take you to his office"

The lady gets out of her chair and motions us to follow her to the principals office. All around the walls there were various pictures of the schools events, posters and the students workings. We soon stop at a door with a metal sign implying that this was the principals office. She knocks on the door and peers inside, I could heard the low murmur of the principal and her talking.

"He will see you now" she opens the door and we all walk in. As I take note of the office it is filled with amounts of certificates of the principals achievements and pictures of what I would think would be his family. As I was paying attention to the walls I didn't hear my Father mention my name.

"Kalei would you like to sit down"

"Sorry" I say giving him a an apologetic look.

"Hello Mr and Mrs Mula and welcome to Quileute High School" The principal says giving us a smile.

The principal from what I could tell held himself and this school with such pride it made me hoping I could get in to this school.

"I am one of the tribal leaders and we have talked through this with the council and have come to a decision to let your daughter attend the school. We've gone through the records you've set us and she is a tremendous student, high grades and a great letter of recommendation form the previous principal we are more and happy to have a new addition to this school"

Mum and Dad smile with much enthusiasm and I couldn't help myself but smile too.

"Thank you so much this is a great honour and we can't wait to see how this goes" Mum implies.

"We are looking forward to having your daughter reach her greatest potential, now there is something else i wanted to discuss our language is also spoken here and have 4 lessons a week that the school teaches the Quileute language, now this is something that is compulsory and would like your daughter to attend these classes" the principal explains.

Now I've heard of the language and that it would be hard to speak but I didn't think I would need to learn it.

Mum and Dad look towards one another and nod, "Of course we have no problem with that"

The principal claps his hands together "We know that she is not of our kind but we don't always welcome outsiders but i have a good feeling about your daughter, and my students will always help you if you need".

"Thank you, that would be greatly appreciated" I say thankful.

He gives me a smile before picking up a small pile of paper "this is the paperwork I'd need you to sign to keep some of these things we teach at the school confidential and other bits are your contact details".

As he hands my parents the paper work they begin to read and sign everything off. Then all of a sudden the office lady comes in with clothes in her hand.

"This is for you, we have a uniform policy all students must wear the school top, black trousers, jeans or anything black for the bottom" she explains.

"Thank you" I reply taking the school top from her.

She leaves and as she does my parents are finished filing the paperwork. They hand it back to the principal and he goes through each page before setting it down neatly beside him.

"Well everything is done here, I look forward to having - at our school and she will start tomorrow morning"

"Thank you for this, we appreciate everything and look forward to meeting with you again" my Father says excitedly.

"The pleasure is all mine, I hope you've enjoyed your time here in La Push"

The principal stands up from his chair and shakes all our hands before we exit the office. As I shut the door the office lady is standing in front of us with a small pile of paper in her hands.

"I forgot to give this to you but this is your locker combination, map and a guide to the school. if you have any questions everything should be in the guide book" she hands me the stack and places it in my hands "We look forward to teaching you here and hope you enjoy Quileute High School".

"Thank you" I say smiling a thanks to her.

As we leave the school I must of said thank you a thousand times to the point where I was sick of the word. Once we were outside i was suddenly enveloped into a hug by both my parents with choruses of we are proud of you and we love you. To be fair i just couldn't wait to get home and sleep and prepare for my first day at my new school tomorrow.
