As much as he tried to distance himself from the stubby, annoying blunette. He wanted to make himself his opposite. After all, by all appearances they were opposites for sure.
Cawlin was short, he was chubby, and he was self centered. He wanted to be a knight for the title-or perhaps because his parents had forced him. Pipit wasn't quite sure which one was true.
Pipit, on the other hand, was tall. His chest and abdomen was sculpted with muscles that he had developed through his training, and he was proud to defend the people of Skyloft. He wanted to be a knight in order to bring honor to his home land.
Yes. They appeared to be very different on the outside. Unfortunately, they were not as different on the inside. Both of them had a few traits they shared.
They were both easily flustered, when it came to the sensitive subject of love. They both found it hard to speak their minds, found it hard to convey their emotions at first. They both had a crush on the same spunky red head.
And yet, of the two of them, Cawlin had been the first to make a move. Cawlin had stepped up.
Pipit could feel his voice cracking a little bit, when Link told him that Cawlin had asked out Karane. "Erm...Wh-what do you think she intends to do..?" He asked in almost a mumble.
"Beats me." Link gave him a little bit of a curious smile. Like he knew something Pipit didn't. "Maybe date him."
"W-well it's not like there's anything going on between me and Karane, you know..! We're just friends..." He couldn't help but pull off his hat with one hand and run the other through his brown hair. "So it's not my business who she goes out with. I don't have much to say about it."
He began a brief rant about love, and how it should be. That she should be entitled to a wonderful, unfettered love. Passion in the highest power, smiles and joy. Link's face broke into a tiny grin when he spoke-watching the brunette get more and more flustered. Yes, this was going according to his plan. Finally, he blurted out "You understand, don't you, Link? I'm not wrong about this, am I?"
A smirk crossed Link's face. "...You like her?"
"Wha-what? Don't be ridiculous, Link! I don't even understand how you could make such a wild accusation!" His cheeks colored bright pink, across the bridge of his freckled nose and into his cheeks. He looked away and muttered something else, and when he looked back Link was gone.
How had Cawlin thought up the guts to ask first? It was killing Pipit that he hadn't asked Karane out. After four years of crushing on her, and holding it in... if she went out with Cawlin...
No! He had to stop her. He sprinted down the stairs, only to hear the conversation that Karane and Cawlin were having. He had just asked her what her answer would be.
"Oh... My A-answer..?" Karane had a look on her face, one that read a little bit of hesitation, and curiousity. Like she might actually be considering it, might actually say yes.
The words flew out of his mouth before he could stop it. "Wait!"
Yes... Pipit and Cawlin were complete opposites in some regards. The biggest being that, while Cawlin had the guts to ask Karane out first...
...Pipit was the one she chose.
