- in sight of a god -
- 5/30/12 -
Korra meditates.
Mako watches her from afar; leaning against an old railing that leads up to the gazebo. Korra sits there with her back turned to him, her front facing the wide waters of the Yue Bay. She's been doing this for a while now; day after day, night after night. Tenzin says she needs to get in touch with the Avatar Spirit - whatever that means. Mako's not one to readily believe all this spiritual stuff, but he has to; he's living with the embodiment of it after all. Waves crash against the rocks below them.
Korra breathes in and out in such smooth even breaths that Mako thinks she might be sleeping instead of meditating, given from what he had heard from Tenzin about Korra's enthusiasm with the activity before. All of this stillness and even breaths is something Mako thinks is strange. It's something he hasn't seen enough of out of Korra. Usually she's bounding up a wall, picking a fight or chasing after Equalists in her past time. He gives Korra's figure one last glance before he turns down the dusty path.
Suddenly a chill goes up Mako's spine and the leaves stir in the trees overhead. He watches as the air swirls around Korra and the sundried wood of the gazebo glows with a light blue glow that surrounds Korra's body. From the horizon, another blue light catches his vision. He looks up and sees the eyes Avatar Aang's statue glowing with the same magnificent glow. It takes Mako a second to realize what has happened. He didn't think he would ever witness such an event.
She has finally connected with the spirits.
Soon Bolin and Asami come along, as well as the airbender children. Tenzin makes his way to the front of the group, a proud look gleams in his eyes as he gazes upon the shining statue of his father. Bolin looks onward in pure amazement, staring at Korra like she was a god. Which she is, Mako assumes. The power of the universe and balancer of the world; the Avatar is a god in mortal form.
It's funny that Mako has never thought of it before. Korra's just Korra; loud, rough and hot-headed. It's amazing what grace she has right now. Asami wraps an arm around Mako and she smiles, happy for her friend. Glad there is hope for the world. For their city.
Mako looks back at Korra and feels a smirk come across his face.
Korra meditates. And all the knowledge of the world flows through her.
:fin:
A lot of people write about Korra going into the Avatar State during a fight or when one of her friends is in danger. It's doubtful that this would happen, but I want Korra to enter it by finally connecting with the Avatar Spirits.
Review and tell me what you though of this.
