The Real Fire
The fire blazed uncontrollably and Dean knew he'd just lost his baby brother. How was that possible after he'd just been with him earlier? The entire weekend. He'd tried to enter the house upon arriving, but the firefighters just held him back. If he ever found his dad, he'd never be able to explain this to him. He'd let Sam die in a fire. The fire. The same fire that had claimed his mom 22 years earlier, to the day. Sam and Jess were the newest victims that the Yellow-Eyed Demon had claimed and he knew how this must have happened.
No doubt, Sam had entered the apartment and upon lying on the bed, opened his eyes to see Jess's lifeless body pinned to the ceiling, cold eyes staring down, just as his mom had. Only this time, Dean had not been there to take Sam into his arms and run out, getting his brother to safety. Sam had most likely gone into shock from the fear and anguish, preventing himself from getting out of the fire that consumed the building.
A few months and successful hunts had passed since Sam and Jess had died in the fire. Dean wishing there was something he could do to bring Sam back, any way at all.
"Hey, I know what you want and I can help you. For a price, of course." A woman walked over, sitting next to Dean.
Dean looked over and watched her eyes turn black. He did not move.
"What's that?" Dean asks.
"To bring Sam back to life." She replied.
"What's the price?" Dean asks.
"I'm willing to settle for any soul you choose. He will never die, cause I'll send you back into the past, bosses choice, and you can pull him from the fire. Just name one person who you actually know, and it'll be done. They'll never know either, they'll die in a few years and until then life a happy life." She smiled, already able to tell Dean was ready to offer up someone for his little brother's life back.
"Walk with me." Dean stood up, letting her go first into the night's cool air.
"So you're saying I can pick anyone and you'll bring him back? Just like that?"
"Yea, pick someone, and you'll be into the moment when Sam entered his apartment, right before he found Jess and was consumed in the flames as well."
Dean thought for a moment. Sam would never know about this and he could pick anyone he wanted. It couldn't be dad, Bobby, Helen or Joe. Himself? No, Sam could not find out.
Dean had someone in mind, he knew them and so he decided to see if this demon spoke the truth and would let Sam come back.
The boy did not know that they wanted Sam back, for their plan. They only needed some human to finish the deal and since they wanted him back and knew going to Dean would work, they just decided to make it look good and get a soul in return in a few years.
Dean was too naïve and desperate to question the motive, "Fine…"
Dean watched Sam enter the apartment and quickly got out, ready to save his little brother this time. This was his second chance and Sam I was alive, walking into the apartment. Upon entering the house, Dean heard Sam shout and ran into the bedroom as quickly as possible. He saw Sam on the bed, shrinking away from the flames on the ceiling. He chanced a quick look and saw Jess in the flames. He grabbed Sam and began dragging him away from the danger. Sam shouting for Jess as he pulled him to safety, where he once again had his brother back…
