This is a poem about and to Roger, as if written by Lyra Silvertongue. It
is my first poem about His Dark Materials, so please read and review!

Roger, My Only Childhood Friend
Roger, my only childhood friend,
How I hated to see your end.
You were always my companion,
Almost like my fam'ly, my kin.
I knew that it was all my fault,
Your life ended, came to a halt.
I should not have brought you along,
To be taken by hands so wrong.
I felt so bad that you were used
By my own blood; I'm so confused.
I feel like I caused you to die.
Why did he trick me, why oh why?
When Will and I went to the world
Where ghosts, around us, whirled and swirled,
There I saw, with a ray of joy,
I found you, my friend, dearest boy!
But the ghost world was desolate,
Not where you should belong or fit.
I just wanted you to be free,
Far from there, at peace and happy.
So Will and I let you all out,
For your soul to roam free about.
In my life, you played a great part.
I'll keep you always in my heart.
