Dusk had come and gone, but still Anders sat hunched over the makeshift desk in his clinic. Inkwell running down as he scribbled away at the pages. A conglomeration of thoughts pouring out onto the pages, blue glows flickering in and out from his body as Justice gave his periodic input. The creak of one of the doors opening broke the trance and Anders snapped his head up, reaching for his staff.
He spun in his seat only to see Hawke. Looking rather sheepish, at that. Standing, he set the staff back down and cocked his head to the side.
"Is everything all right, love?" Anders kept his voice soft in the oppressive quiet of the clinic, ever concerned with making too much of a fuss to draw the wrong sort of attention to himself.
"Not at all…" Hawke grinned, a broad and flashy gesture.
He reached around the corner of the door he'd just entered. A basket piled high with blankets became visible when he righted himself. The toothy grin did not waver as Anders stared between Hawke and the basket.
"What is-"
A muffled crying cut Anders off, his attention drawn more fully to the basket. The bundles of blankets were moving, wriggling and shifting. His mouth fell open.
"I may have…" Hawke's grin fell slightly as he coughed into his free hand. "Uh, accidentally sort of adopted five cats." The rest of the words tumbled out at a fast clip, heat rising against Hawke's cheeks.
In a rush, Anders hurdled himself forward and threw his arms around Hawke. He peppered his cheeks with various kisses while Hawke began to grin again, chest rumbling in cheery laughter.
"I'm glad you approve," he managed through chuckles.
Anders tipped his head up, a broad smile on his face. He cupped either side of Hawke's face, a warm smile on his lips as he leaned in for a quick kiss.
"You know just how to make me smile," he quipped. Stooping down, he scooped up one of the mewling bundles and cradled the kitten close.
"We'll need to name them," Hawke pointed out. He set the basket down carefully, scooping up another crying bundle for himself.
"Oh, I have a few ideas."
