"You want me to authorize a what?"
Professor Mcgonagall shuffled her papers and looked back at the confused unspeakable.
"No, not want. I need you to authorize a time turner to be dispensed to one of my soon to be third year students, Miss Hermione Granger so that she can take all the classes in the third year curriculum."
The unspeakable blinked. When Minerva had requested a meeting they thought she would simply give them her annual list of potential 6th year candidates to be watched and then they would sit in the small office and drink some tea with biscuits. Certainly not this.
The unspeakable blinked again.
"Minerva, do you not hear yourself? Why in the name of nargles do you even think that this is a suitable request? The money alone for the sands of time, then it's the fact that she is underage. I don't recognize the surname, so is she a muggleborn as well? And then all so that she can just try all her classes at school... do you not hear how absurd this is?"
Professor Mcgonagall simply stared down at her Hufflepuff graduate of 71, then she picked up the papers that she had been handling and handed them over. Surprise showed on the unspeakable's face and then confusion as they examined the first paper which appeared to be a formal document yet not handwritten and the ink was different as well as the fact that all the letters were completely uniform.
"Have you been briefed about the incident of the chamber at Hogwarts last year?" A brief nod was given. "Good. What you don't know is the out of all the students that were petrified, only one sat the end of year exams which we offered to wave aside. Miss granger, who was sitting her second year, scored top marks in all her subjects. Not only that but she handed in all the assignments that she had missed during her 2 week petrification, in 2 days. Whilst sitting her exams.
"Not even an hour after she was revived, Miss Granger spoke to me formally with regards to how much information her parents should be given of the event. She showed remarkable restraint when she was informed that her parents had not been contacted when she had been petrified. She simply nodded her head and then went on to ask me that I do not inform her parents of any of the events that had occured when I send through the end of year reports. Two weeks later, she sends me a letter, the one in your hands, asking if she might be able to take all the subjects for third year. She does not ask for a time turner. She does not know that I am here asking it of you.
"Before you say anything else, I want you to think. This girl only found out about magic, less than two years ago. She has been achieving the highest marks possible in her year. She already understands about the secrecy of our kind, as well as different mind set of her muggle parents compared to hers. She shows a potential to be a very prominent member of society. A prominent member with potential that I'm sure your department would love to have but I'm sure many departments would love to have her. It would work in your favour if you are the first ministry department that she deals with. Wouldn't you say?"
The unspeakable had been silent and unmoving until now. They reached up to their neck and rubbed slowly at the base of it.
"You've been living with Slytherins too long, you know that?"
Minerva smiled.
"Excellent. I'll write back to Miss Granger and inform her that she will be taking her desired subjects. Now, one last thing. What is the ministries current view on werewolves in a teaching position?"
