"Sora-kun,"
"Yes?"
"I...,"
"Hm?"
"...I...,"
And he lost his nerves when her red eyes looked up at him in curiosity. His breath got stuck in his throat and he froze in his seat. Icy sweat trailed down his back in a slow and tantalizing fire, obviously taunting him for backing out so soon.
He should have said it immediately.
He could hardly feel his hands now.
Sora continued to look at him; waiting for whatever the reason he had called her name for and flicked a quick glance to the clock on the wall.
"Jou, is something wrong?"
He immediately snapped out of his frozen state, face reddening in embarrassment and he ducked his head, staring at the white gauze in his hands.
"Never mind, Sora-kun. I was thinking aloud,"
"Okay,"
He then mumbled something incoherently under his breath and bandaged the wound on her left knee. Once done, he put away his first aid kit, watching Sora from the corner of his eyes as she slid off the high stool, limping on her feet and dusted her short skirt.
"Thank you, Jou. I apologize for always being a bother,"
"That's okay, Sora-kun. You should take it easy with tennis. Rest a week or two or something before that wound of yours is healed,"
"Thanks for the advice," Sora flashed him one of her many nice smiles and grabbed her bag from the counter, limping her way to the door. She did not see his strained smile at all.
"Bye, Jou. I'll talk to you some other time,"
"Okay, bye,"
He held up a hand to wave once she turned to look over her shoulder, giving him one last look. The door slid closed and then she was gone.
He gathered his bag and first-aid kit, shoulders slumped in disappointment. Yet another missed chance. How long was he going to keep this procrastination? Sora wouldn't always be waiting for him; he would scold himself over and over again. One day someone would snatch her away before he could pronounce the words properly. She would be out of his reach by then. The thought pained him.
Shaking his head as if the mere movement could clear his mind, Jou hoisted his back bag over his shoulder and marched to the door, taking in a deep breath before sliding the door to one side. He hesitated.
He should tell her right away. He really should say it right away. Sora had the right to know.
He thinned his lips in a grim line, gathered his courage, pushing back his glasses from falling off his nose and took a direction, sinking his teeth into a passing chance. The next day, he waited for Sora at the front gate and greeted her with a "Good morning, Sora-kun. I've something to tell you,"
That day the sakura trees shed their first blossoms.

2 down 3 to go. Sorry for the OoC and the little Jou angst. Don't you just love open ends?
Thank you for reading!
