-Role Reversal-
"Danny?" Jamie called out as he pushed through the front door of his brother's house. He put his keys in his coat pocket and turned the corner to see his older brother sprawled out on the couch, the television on a college football game.
He smiled at the sight.
Linda and the kids had gone to her parents for the weekend to celebrate their anniversary and Danny had stayed behind nursing a nasty case of the flu.
He walked to the side of the couch and looked down at the mound of blankets, "I brought you some of Grandpa's homemade chicken noodle soup."
Danny removed the blanket that was covering his face, his eyes blood shot as he looked up at his brother. "Can you put it on the table?" He pointed towards the kitchen, "I'm not really hungry right now." He brought his hand up to his throat and rubbed lightly as his voice nearly cut out at the end.
Jamie nodded and cringed in sympathy. "I'll just put this in the fridge."
He had just closed the door to the refrigerator when Danny started coughing in the other room. "Do you want some water?"
"Yeah." He heard another round of coughing. "Grab the cough drops off the table too."
He opened the refrigerator again, grabbed a bottle of water, turned and grabbed the bag of cough drops from the table and then made his way back into the living room.
He laid the items on the table and then took a seat in the chair. "When Gramps said you were sick I thought you were faking it to get out of the weekend at Linda's parents."
Danny smiled, "I wish." He croaked out, which turned into a coughing fit. He leaned over the side of the couch, knocking his blanket to the floor.
Jamie stood up and grabbed the water bottle, unscrewing the cap and handing it to his brother. "Here." He picked up the blanket, covered the older man and then retook his seat on the chair.
"Thanks." Danny recapped the bottle and stared at his little brother for a moment. "You don't have to stay."
He shrugged. "I want too, besides it's almost dinner time and Grandpa made enough soup for both of us."
Danny smiled, leaned back against the pillows on the couch and closed his eyes. "Thanks kid."
