A/N: It seems I'm constantly defending my position of shipping E/K so I thought I'd write it all out once so I can just have a link to send people to. I don't ask anyone to agree with my reasoning, just please respect my right to live in my own little fantasy world where marriage still means something! We don't all have to think the same way; the world would be a pretty boring place if we did. I can appreciate why people ship E/O and other E/ combinations and don't complain about YOU doing so (well, unless you ship E/Dani Beck-that's just plain wrong!*) so please give me the same courtesy.
Ten Reasons Why I Ship E/K
10) If you watch the early episodes, you can see that Elliot really loves & was happy with his wife, before the producers started making Kathy the bad guy to heighten the E/O tension.
9) I find nothing more attractive than a married man who is devoted to his wife and family.
8) The sexiest scene in the whole 12 seasons is when Eli is conceived. The look of desire & vulnerability on Elliot's face when he undresses and crawls into bed with his wife makes me melt every time I watch it. No, Eli is NOT the mailman's son. ;-)
7) The next best scene is when Eli is born and Elliot holds him. But note that, before he even looks at the baby, he touches his forehead to Kathy's in relief that she is alive and okay.
6) Elliot is Catholic, and a good man. It's out of character for him to lust after someone not his wife.
5) E/O may have great chemistry, but E/K have a bond that surpasses mere attraction. You can't minimize five kids and twenty+ years together. Everyone has rocky times, but it doesn't mean you cut and run to someone else, or your whole life will be about escaping your past. Chemistry fades, evaporates, dwindles away and isn't a foundation for a relationship. Love and commitment are.
4) As long as Elliot is happy with his wife, Dani Beck is out of the picture. Enough said?
3) I think Elliot cares for Olivia deeply, but they'd be like oil & water as romantic partners. They're both too strong and independent. They'd kill each other! (although it might be fun to watch!)
2) In real life, relationships are complicated. People are often attracted to and feel a strong connection to someone of the opposite sex without ever acting on it. It's called being an adult and it's what keeps life interesting.
And the most important reason:
1) If E/O ever really happened, they wouldn't be able to be partners or probably even work in the same unit and the show would be ruined.
*I'm actually just kidding about Dani Beck, if you ship that way, well, to each their own. :-)
