Hey guys, the description pretty much covered it all so I hope you like it, Please read and review. Oh and I don't own Merlin. If i did it would have ended very differently.
Merlin was frustrated to say the least. He was just tired, both physically and mentally. He had outlived all of his friends and family and was still cursed with the inability to die. An ageing spell was the only way to avoid questions about why he wasn't getting older. Everyday he walked past the lake of Avalon and everyday choking pain swelled up in him as he realized today was not the day.
To be honest, after 1,000 years, he had almost given up hope that Arthur would ever return. After all, Kilgharrah had been very ill when he had made that prediction. It was possible he had been confused. "No," he said to himself shaking those thoughts out of his head. Arthur was coming back, he had to.
Merlin walked down a block to a pub that he frequented more than he probably should if truth be told but hey, after all he had done he deserved it. 'Gwain would be proud.' he thought with a small sad smile. However on this day there seemed to be a ruckus as a man with his back turned shouted, "How dare you!" and dumped a pint of ale on another mans head.
That voice! Merlin constantly heard Arthur's voice everywhere he went, but this one nearly undid him. It was so close that Merlin had to check.
"Hey, come on that's enough." he told the blonde, and noticed that the man froze on the spot.
After a moment of hesitation, he replied, "What?"
" You've had your fun my friend." Merlin could scarcely even hope. However, when the man turned, he saw something he never thought he would see again, the face of his best friend.
"Do I know you?" Arthur asked him with a huge smile, continuing to reenact the fist time they meet.
"I'm Merlin." he said slowly stepping forward.
"So, I don't know you" Arthur joked, smiling at the familiarity of their bantering.
"No."
"Yet you call me 'friend.'"
"That was my mistake" Merlin told him not even bothering to hide the tears that were threatening to break through.
"Yeah, I think so."
They were less then a foot apart now and every eye in the bar was on them.
"I'd never have a friend who could be such an ass"
"Or I one who could be so stupid"
They both reached out, smiling as they embraced each other like long lost brothers. Then they walked out of the Pub leaving some very confused patrons behind.
Merlin kept an arm around his shoulder, sure that if he blinked this would all disappear.
Merlin glanced around to make sure no one was watching before removing the ageing spell he had placed on himself. Arthur rolled his eyes at his friends open use of magic.
The Once and Future King broke the silence first. He turned to Merlin and said " I've missed you."
"Oh Really?" Emrys replied, his signature teasing grin prominent on his features.
"Yes, you have no idea how bad the servants are in the after life. They made even you look good."
They both laughed as they looked over Lake of Avalon. Destiny has a funny way of working but they knew it wasn't over yet, and they would face it when it came like they always had; together.
