Drowning in The Night
Cal struggles to breathe.
He feels the water pressing in on him, and his lungs scream for air.
He fights against the straps restraining him, crushing his chest.
Martin watches gleefully as Cal's struggles weaken beneath his hand, and finally stop.
Gillian's face flashes through Cal's mind as he's brought back, and as he goes under all he can see is some random memory of her playing with a five year-old Emily.
The pattern continues until suddenly, he opens his eyes to see sunlight pouring through a familiar bedroom window.
He turns over to see Gillian laying beside him, and he watches her until his heartbeat slows.
Cal leans over and kisses the top of her head gently before laying back onto the pillow.
He closes his eyes and pictures the future, and he likes what he sees.
