"The safe. Open it." Pagliacci ordered her hostage, putting a .357 magnum to his head.
Her hostage- Dr. Kirk Langstrom- was sweating bullets. Tied to a chair nearby was Black Canary- gagged to prevent the use of the infamous "Canary Cry".
"The combination is-" Dr. Langstrom began.
"Open it yourself!" Pagliacci barked.
Just then, Langstrom began to change. His arms stretched out to form leathery wings. His clothing ripped apart to accommodate the new features. Pagliacci was on the verge of losing her lunch at the sight of Langstrom's horrific metamorphosis, and at the sound of his inhuman cries.
"CIÓ CHE IL CAZZO?" Pagliacci shrieked.
Finally, the nauseating transformation was complete- Dr. Kirk Langstrom was now the Man-Bat. Pagliacci cowered in the corner at the sight of this unnatural chimera of man and beast. Black Canary writhed in her chair.
"Don't let me die. Don't let me die. Don't let me die. Non farm morire." Pagliacci recited, her speech drifting into Italian.
The terrifying screech of the Man-Bat echoed through the room.
"KEEP BACK!" Pagliacci screamed as the Man-Bat drew closer.
Just then, the Man-Bat ran towards the window, and promptly flew out into the night.
"Cazzo!" Pagliacci cursed.
At the Gotham waterfront, Father Joshua Wilks was sound asleep when his radio went off.
"Rumors have it that the Man-Bat was sighted flying away from the Gotham Zoo 90 minutes ago. If anyone sees this creature, do not approach it. Jack Ryder, signing off." The radio played.
Father Wilks went back to sleep
