A/N: Hikari: Here is the second, the dark epilogue to my story, Fairytale of a Birdcage and a Well. If you haven't read it, I guess it is fine, as this has almost nothing to do with the plot itself. It's a lot (a LOT) shorter than the light ending. Okay, saving rambling to the end, betaed by dawntodusk, translations to lyrics you may find are by Defade, enjoy~!

Epilogue: Song of Dusk

This world… Radiant and full of light. Filled with dreams of hope, peace and a happily ever after.

But in the depths of the human mind, darkness resides. Darkness that, once powerful enough, can take a hold of one's soul, tearing it apart and turning them into something horrible, something terrifying. Their hands become stained in blood of those who oppose them, they dance under the influence of their deepest and darkest desires. And then they become such victims themselves, and the cycle starts all over again.

They never see it, they never notice its existence. Nor do they wish to.

Living in lies, trusting in fake images of their own twisted minds. Going along with the ideal that builds a stage for the impulses that they lose themselves to. When they finally realize those horrors, it is far too late. If at all.

And they reach for light, that which they have lost forever in desperation, trying to grasp what would once have belonged to them. But it is too late. They scream for mercy as their lights fade out of existence, as their lives burn into nothing, their hopes and dreams shattering and vanishing forever. "Why", they scream. Why do they have to suffer?

Shouting out to the nothingness, they get no answer. They fall into a void that is never filled, and they realize that nothing matters anymore. It is too late.

This never-ending circle repeats itself, time after time.

History of
dying flames that have
lost themselves in
a distorted picture of a paradise.
They search for a story of something better,
only to be crushed by destiny.

They blame other people, setting the stage of revenge, on which tragedy after tragedy is acted out in a sweet pretense of an everlasting fairytale.

It never ends, it never pauses, and it never lets anyone go. For the darkness is always there, always ready to act its part.

The impulses never die.

In the darkness of the eternal night, the wheel of revenge and misfortune continues to spin, slowly, yet surely and untiringly. In the end, who is it turning that wheel? Over the shattering dreams and screams of dying souls, who is it that follows the events, letting them unfold?

In this world… With dreams crushed, hopes dimmed and light faded away, is there left for one to wish for, is there anything more for one to look forward to? Who is it left alone in a world with everything else gone? When there is no "happy ending" to be expected, is anyone willing to believe?

The funeral bell tolls seven times for an era. As its echo vanishes…

"We will continue to circle about..."

A/N: Hikari: And that's it. As those who did read the story, you'll notice that the last line is exactly the same as in the light ending. A small thing to connect them~

One thing about this: I hadn't even planned that "going through the horizons" thing until I had already written the whole thing out. And then I read it through again only to find several things I were not satisfied in, firstly that this was even shorter than it is now, and it kept repeating itself. And even now it's pretty much just dark rambling. But yes.

Fun little trivia: I have actually made a book cover for the story, basing it on the "fairytale book" from Märchen. I'm printing the whole story as a book for myself in celebration of actually finishing a long story (and don't look at me like that, it wasn't my idea!). Yes, random trivia. *shot a million times*

Anyhow, Merry Christmas, again.

Bai bai~!
