((Just a little drabble I did back in '09, when I had no life and all I did was write about Death Note. Enjoy!))

Linda walked down the hallway from her room. Life at Wammy House was perfect for her. She was well fed, had nice clothes, and her own room. There was just one thing that she really wanted; To be loved by Near. Linda adored him with all her heart and soul. Everyone knew this. Everyone, except Near. This made her heart ache. Didn't he notice how much she cared for him? Didn't he see how much she admired him?

Taking a turn, Linda walked right into the kitchen. She grabbed a few cookies and sighed.

"There has got to be a way for Near to notice me" she thought quietly to herself.
She walked out of the kitchen and down the long hallway again. Soon she stopped when she saw a white lump in the corner of the playroom, stacking dice. She admired how perfectly he could stack them. She tried to stack them like he did once, but she wasn't successful. He just did everything so...perfectly.

Taking a deep breath, she readied herself. She needed plenty of time to ready herself when it came to talking to Near.

"Okay Linda, just go in there and talk to him" the young girl thought to herself.
Gaining enough confidence, she walked right into the playroom and up to Near, who was focused on his dice stacking.

"Hi Near" she said cheerfully, looking down at the albino child. Not even smiling, Near finally looked up at the girl.

"Hello Linda. How are you today?" he asked, slowly turning back to his tower of dice. He was obviously uninterested in holding a conversation with her. She shifted on her feet and cleared her throat.

"I'm alright. How are you?" she asked politely.

"I'm fine" he replied dully, obviously bored.

Linda smiled and twirled one of her pigtails slowly. She felt a little uneasy. Near could tell that she was feeling a little nervous.

"Would you like a cookie?" she asked, holing one out. In the back of her mind, she was hoping he did want a cookie.

"No thank you. I don't care for sweets too much" he replied, not paying much attention to her, but rather on his dice.

"Oh...well...I'll see you later, I guess" she said, a bit disappointed. Near knew damn well that he was the cause of her sudden mood drop. And he sort of felt bad. it was a nice gesture on her part anyway.

Linda turned and started to walk away when she felt him take her hand. She spun around and in a sudden motion, he pulled her over to him, and gave her a quick peck on the cheek. Linda was speechless.

"He...he actually kissed me" was all she could think.

Near gave her a small smile before turning back to his tower of dice.

"But thank you for offering" he said to a very stunned Linda. Speechless, Linda walked out of the room. She closed the door and leaned against it, smiling.

Finally, Linda s perfect life at Wammy House was complete.
